Silkens produce a wide range of varnishes and wood stains. They are good quality products that give excellent results, but this is reflected in the price.

I bought some wood stain a few years ago to treat the shed. Fed up with having to creosote every year and see the colour fad out very quickly I wanted something that would last. The stain I got was uv reflective so the sun's rays wouldn't bleach out the colour. It was easy to apply, didn't run and dried out very quickly. The desired finish was got in just one coat, this lasted about 5 years before it needed a light sand and a recoat.

So it cost a lot more than creasote or other wood stains but the low maintenance made it well worth while. This is even more important when treating windows, fascias etc where they are difficult and time consuming to do
- use this and it will last a lot longer.
