Advantages: Great for people with sensitive skin, very cost effective

I bought a bag of soap nuts after stumbling on a review of them on this very site! I was sold on the idea of cheaper, eco friendly washing and when I found a 500g bag for £7 on the Soapnut Shell website I thought it was worth a go. Previously I was spending £8-£10 a month on washing powder and conditioner.

Well, I'm a convert! Each bag comes with a small cotton bag- you pop six to eight shells in the bag and put it in the washing machine- easy as. Clothes come out soft and clean and best of all, I use one 500g bag every six months- a saving of over £100.

There are some downsides- there is no fragrance so I do buy essential oils every couple of months, but these are only 99p on ebay. Lemon and lime are my favourites. Also, there are no bleaching agents so for whites you may have to add a splash of laundry bleach every couple of washes.

So it's more fuss, but in my opinion it's well worth the extra couple of minutes thought when you think about the financial savings. However, some people won't like this so I have given this product 4 stars.
