Highly recommended to save some pennies

About a year ago, when the credit crunch really started to bite, I decided we should try out more items from the supermarket's own brands. We have a Somerfield locally and shop there often and already bought a few of their own brand items but wash powder wasn't one at the time.

Their wash powder cost £1.89 for a small box, that's alot cheaper than the big brands unless they are on a promotion. I bought a box and took it home.

Upon opening the box of wash powder I found it smelt quite like some of the others I'd used, reasonably fresh and not too strong. I used the same amount in the wash and waited for the results.

The clothes came out as clean as they always do, no change to performance at all. They smelt clean, I personally do not think wash powders often smell particularly nice anyway but this didn't leave the clothes smelling any different to most other brands.

I tried it on some of my partners white shirts and it performed as well as other brands without any stain removal products added first but I think all wash powders struggle with the collars on white shirts. I even did a load at the environmentally friendly 30 degrees and it still performed well.

Overall I would recommend it, I've continued to use it and don't think there's anything to be gained from spending more on a well known brand. I know some items are a false economy when you buy cheap brands but this isn't one of them.

Usually i don't buy the cheap washing powders.......over time I've forgotten whether that's because they don't work well in my own experience, or whether like so many of us so many times, I've succumbed to the advertising hype...... It was a very lean week and i was out of Colour washing liquid. I had Bosnian lodgers at that time who used HUGE amounts of the stuff and seemed to be washing as much for 2 of them as I do for myself and 3 boys (who are always getting dirty) so I decided I would have to buy cheaply. Somerfield had a special offer on their basic colour powder (I haven't even bought powder in *years*!)it was extremely cheap, so I bought it. I used it while the lodgers used up the remains of my hated persil colour tablets, and was amazed to find it actually works! There's no amazing sales pitch I can provide......no ads I can quote, but I can only say how impressed I am. So much so that I went and bought an extremely large box of it the next week! I do tend to buy offers rather than stick to a brand name (unless I prefer the brand name for a definite reason)but had never even considered the powders, finding them old-fashioned.... I take it all back! This powder dissolved well, washed my clothes well (a challenge with my 3 boys!) and left a pleasant if unmemorable scent.
