Advantages: Subtle Smell, The Price, It does exactly what it says it will do

Disadvantages: Old fashioned packaging

Thanks to swampy also known as bint features, departing Kappaslappa mansions and leaving it in such an appalling state I had no option but to go to the nearest supermarket and stock up on every kind of detergent, bleach and cleaner as possible along with pink marigolds (one day I’ll find some purple ones), dusters, sponges and bin bags.

Why have I turned into some neat freak you ask? Well swampy as she is aptly nicknamed by a good friend of mine left Kappaslappa mansions in a total mess. Her room hasn’t been cleaned for FIVE, yes FIVE years.

The dust on the carpet was an inch thick, the windows were black behind the curtains and they too are thick mould, the walls are stained with not something im prepared to think about and finally the amount of cobwebs in there upto this afternoon was phenomenal.

So i turned my marigold clad hands to the old trusty faithful Stardrops, the only other option was to douse the room in petrol and hope for the best!

(",) What is Stardrops (",)

Described as "the all round cleaner" and it is as it says a multi-purpose cleaner. It was one of the first soapless detergents launched in the UK during the war and today it is still one of the most well known detergent brands and my Nan swears by it.

(",) What can you use it on (",)

As Stardrops is a multi-purpose cleaning detergent you can use this stuff on a variety of surfaces.

On the back of the bottle it states that Stardrops can be used on - Baths, carpets, melamine, cards, china, floors, fridges, glassware, hand laundry, hobs, mirrors, paintwork, sinks, tiles, upholstery, washing-up, UPVC windows and doors and work tops.

(",) How do you use it (",)

As with all cleaning agents there is a set of guidelines to accompany the usage. With Stardrops it’s very simple to use.

For general cleaning, all you need to do is to use 1/2 to 1 tablesp

oon to 8 pints (for those Europeans that is roughly 4.5 litres) of hot water.

For greasy or tough marks (thanks to swampy this was me) use Stardrops undiluted on a sponge or cloth and then rinse off. I left Stardrops on the window ledges and window frame for roughly one minute before I rinsed it off and the finished results were superb, all black grime had disappeared leaving behind a lovely white window frame and window ledge. I repeated this process for the bedroom door, the skirting boards and the wardrobe door, which remain in the room.

To use on carpets and upholstery it is recommended that 3 tablespoons to 1 pint (again that’s 500ml) of Stardrops in warm water and most important of all DO a spot test first, just to make sure the colour will not fade on your belongings. You don't need to soak your testing spot, just use a damp cloth and allow it to dry. It is also worth noting that you cannot use this stuff on velvet.

For use on hand laundry again add 2 tablespoons to 8 pints of warm water and rinse thoroughly.

(",) The whiff (",)

As the liquid is yellow you would expect there to be a lemony smell and that’s exactly what it does smell of. It is a very subtle lemon smell unlike the one some bleaches leave behind.

Stardrops also contains a substance called Bitrex, which is foul tasting to deter young children from drinking it. But as with all chemicals they should be kept out of reach of children.

For more information on Bitrex they do have a website which is www.bitrex.com and everything you need to know can be found here.

(",) The bottle (",)

The packaging is relatively simple and very old fashioned. It is a clear plastic bottle with a white flip top lid containing 600mls of the yellow cleaning liquid.

(",) How much does it cost (",)

For a 600ml bottle it costs a mere 89p in my local shop, which is a total barga
in co
nsidering it can be used to replace all your other household cleaners which you pay a bit more for because of their household name.

Stardrops can be found in any local supermarket, local conveinence store and high street stores and prices do vary depending on where you shop. Ive never seen or bought this product for more than £1 at anytime.

(",) My personal opinion (",)

Stardrops for me is brilliant, after the state of swampy's room i never thought i would be able to shift the amount of dirt and grime from the skirting boards never mind tackling the window.

For those people who do not want to spend endless hours scrubbing dirt and grime from household surfaces (like me) then this is a great multi-purpose cleaner. The added bonus is that Stardrops doesnt leave your hands feeling all dry and irritable after using it like some products do.

(",) More information and contacts (",)

Ive scoured the Internet and have yet to come across a website for Stardrops but on the back of the bottle there is an address:
