“ Brand: Stardrops / Type: Anti-Bacterial Spray / Subcategory: Cleaning Spray / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
I hadn't actually come across Stardrops as a brand until around a year ago when I kept hearing about it via dooyoo and ciao. I then saw it was being sold in B&M but I only got round to buying it a few months ago. I usually opt for Dettol when looking for a universal antibacterial cleanser but as there was none of this on offer and I needed some cleaner asap I decided to opt for the Stardrops brand.
The spray comes in a 750ml bottle with a trigger spray. The trigger has yellow detailing and there is a large predominantly green label with Stardrops branding on. I paid £1 for this from B&M and I haven't actually seen it being sold elsewhere.
To use the spray is simple, you simply spray it onto the surface of whatever you want to clean and then wipe with a cloth. You can use this for a variety of household tasks and as it kills 99.9% of bacteria it is safe for use all around the home.
I use this to clean a variety of areas. One of the primary areas I use this spray on is the kitchen. I find that it works especially well when wiping down work surfaces or the chopping board. If there is a large amount of stuck on food on the surface, Stardrops will remove it however it does usually need a bit of effort whereas a specialised foaming kitchen cleaner does the job for you.
I also use this in the bathroom, especially on the toilet seat and the sink. Again, to remove any marks such as water marks on the sink you will need to put a bit of effort in but afterwards the surface looks clean and I am comfortable knowing that it not only looks clean, it is hygenically clean too.
I use this for everyday cleaning and predominantly freshening up areas of the home. Although its not quite as powerful as some cleaners it does kill bacteria which is essential around the home.
I have had this bottle open a few weeks now and there is still around half a bottle left however I do use this alongside other cleaners.
With some cleaners I have found that when used in an area without ventilation they can become quite overwhelming and they get in my throat. However, this is not the case with this so I would describe it as a kind cleaner. It is also kind to skin as I have got it on my hands numerous times and nothing has ever flared up.
I like this cleaner. It does exactly what Dettol does for a lower price. In all honesty I think I do opt for Dettol just for the brand but I am happy with this offering from the Stardrops range and think it does a great job of cleaning areas that predominantly need just a quick freshening up however if you are looking for something with a bit more power to shift grease or grime then I would recommend a special cleaner for the kitchen or bathroom.
When we had our second daughter on 10th February this year, my husband was sent to the shops to pick up the last minute baby supplies that we had forgotten to get. Along with all the other bits he picked up, there was 4 various anti-bacterial cleaners! I am now working my way through them!! I had decided to bottle feed from the beginning this time round, so obviously hygiene while making up bottles is extremely important.
-- The Packaging --
The bottle is a clear plastic 1 litre bottle with a clear and yellow plastic trigger spray. The spray nozzle has an 'on' and 'off' printed on it, which you turn. This makes it easy to use. The label stuck onto the front of the bottle is green and white with the Stardrops logo in White with the little Stardrop character in yellow, this makes the bottle quite eye catching.
On the label on the back of the label, it has the usual warnings that most cleaning products have - about leaving it out of reach children and pets.
-- The Product --
The liquid is clear and is meant to kills 99.9% of known germs including E-coli, Salmonella, Listeria and MRSA.
It is very simple to use, twist the nozzle on to the 'on' position and spray the liquid onto the surface you wish to clean (recommended distance of 15-20cm away) and then wipe away with a clean dry cloth. On the bottle it recommends leaving the liquid on the surface for 2-3 minutes for effective use.
In my opinion this products cleans well and doesn't seem to have a scent, which I quite like. Quite often cleaning products can have an overpowering smell and can give me a headache. I don't find it harsh on my skin either.
It is manufactured in the UK by: Star Brands Ltd, Unit 23, Hunt End Industrial Estate, Dunlop Road, Reddith, West Midlands, B97 5XP. They also have a website: www.stardrops.co.uk
-- Price and Availability --
I think my husband bought this from Iceland for £1. In our area, we can't seem to get Stardrops in the larger supermarkets. It tends to be sold in places like Iceland and I think Wilkinsons sometimes stock it.
-- Overall Summary --
I really like this product, especially at this bargain price. It is quick and simple to use and ensures my work surfaces are clean and hygienic which is important especially when preparing my daughter's bottles. When I have used up the stash of cleaning products I already have I will be buying this again.
Thanks for reading.
When it comes to cleaning my house I use quite a lot of antibacterial cleaner. Whether its cleaning my daughter's high chair or cleaning the animals feeding mats it comes in very useful and I always end up buying a bottle whenever I'm shopping as I just use so much of the stuff!
I'm not loyal to a brand and will generally pick up anything which is either on offer or is on a multibuy deal as I do find that they all generally do the same thing. Recently in my local discount store I was browsing down their cleaning product aisle and I came across the Stardrops Antibacterial cleaner. For 99p it was hard not to resist and it was put in my basket.
Stardrops is quite a well known make but its popularity has dwindled somewhat but it can still be found and purchased in most supermarkets and discount stores. I have tried a few Stardrops products and have found them to be good as they all do their job which is what you want in a cleaning product.
Stardrops Antibacterial cleaner comes in the usual trigger spray bottle which is clear and transparent so you can see exactly how much you have in the bottle. The liquid itself is clear in colour. The label on the front is blue in colour and has the protect cross type symbol as well as the product name and the Stardrops mascot, the little gold star. On the back of the bottle there are usage instructions and warnings.
Obviously using the spray is incredibly easy as you simply use the trigger and the spray comes out directly onto where you've aimed for. There is an on/off type nozzle which is useful to use. The spray comes out as a fine mist and just like the colour in the bottle it comes out completely clear, if it dries before you manage to wipe it away it doesn't leave a white residue behind and simply dries without leaving a watermark whatsoever.
To my surprise the antibacterial spray does not smell of anything. Unlike most antibacterial sprays which have quite a powerful, alcohol type scent but the Stardrops Antibacterial aroma has absolutely no scent whatsoever which is actually quite a good thing as it doesn't leave a 'cleaner' smell behind which is great. It actually makes a nice change from others with a stronger smell!
As to the cleaning it does the job but I really don't know how antibacterial it actually is compared to products such as Detol but then as long as my surfaces and other objects are clean and no one is coming down ill etc then for me it is doing its job. I really can't complain about it whatsoever although because it has no scent to it, I do wonder whether it is this that makes it quite cheap compared to other brands which are a bit more money but I may just be being a bit too picky!
Overall, I can't really fault this antibacterial cleaner at all. It does the job and manages to get everything I use it on clean. I've used it on my work surfaces, tiles both wall and floor, rubber feeding mats, wooden doors and it all seems to cope with everything without a problem. It doesn't leave a residue once dry so as far as I'm concerned, I've found a little bargain!
You can pick up a bottle of Stardrops Antibacterial cleaner for around 99p. However, I have only seen it in the discount stores and never any of my local supermarkets but this may just be in my area. A definite recommendation from me, especially if you use an antibacterial cleaner a lot!
