“ Brand: Surf / Type: Laundry Detergent / Category: Laundry „
There are only a few washing detergents I can use due to sensitive skin in the family, amongst the ones I can use and do use regularly is "surf small and mighty". The actual detergent fragrance I'm going to review is a different fragrance to that pictured above, but it is the same detergent.
This particular fragrance sunshine orchard detergent, comes in three different size bottles 18, 25 and 54 washes. The detergent is double concentrated, which just means there is less packaging as you don't need to put as much in each wash. All it takes is one little capful of this delightful detergent which incidentally, contains essential oils, poured into your washing machine drawer, to ensure you get a beautifully fragrant load, of nice clean laundry.
A bit like a tear drop shape, the plastic bottle, has a very brightly colored plastic covering, displaying all the washing information you need to know. Topped with a small yellow screw on plastic lid. The detergent liquid itself, is white, thick and creamy and has the most pleasing aroma of lemon and mandarin flowers. The scent is extremely strong, but that isn't a bad thing because it smells clean and fresh, a most delightful smell.
The bottle tells you how much detergent you should use.
1 capful = 35 ml which should be enough for one wash.
If you live in a hard water area it is advised you use 1 and a half capfuls in your wash.
Even when washing in cold water 15 degrees or less, surf claim you will still get outstanding results in your wash.
There are some safety notes with this detergent:
Keep away from eyes: Should you get this product in your eyes you should rinse them straight away with cold water.
People with sensitive skin should avoid prolonged contact with this product.
Keep away from children.
Wash and dry hands thoroughly after use.
Surf small and mighty comes in four different delightful fragrances, the last listed fragrance only comes in one size, these include:
Tropical oasis of ylang ylang & lily
18, 28, and 54 Washes
Lavender & jasmine secret garden
18, 28, and 54 Washes
Sunshine orchard of lemons & mandarin flowers
18, 28, and 54 Washes
Mystic waterfalls of lotus flowers & wild freesia
If you wanted to add just that little something extra to your wash you could try one of the delightful twilight sensations range of fragrances which are:
Jasmine & Black Gardenia
Vanilla & Black Orchid
Surf also sell capsules and powders, depending on your preference. You can expect to pay between £4.00 and £5.00 for a Litre bottle (28 washes) of surf small and mighty from your local supermarket.
I really like the strong fragrance of this detergent, as soon as I smell it I just smell cleanness, although I seem to be washing all the time, the bottle I buy which is the 28 wash bottle, seems to last me a long time. There are only a few detergents I can use for my family, due to all of us having sensitive skin, but with this detergent I don't have any problems from anyone, the clothes are always clean, fresh and smell absolutely delightful. I used to use this detergent just for a light wash, but recently, I have been using it for my dark loads as well and have been delighted with the results.
If I'm pegging washing out, I can smell the delightful aroma of the washing detergent when I go back outside. The scent seems to linger on the clothes for quite a while, much to my delight. In my opinion, there's nothing better than smelling fresh clean washing and with the added bonus of this delightful fragrance I can't go far wrong.
I would definitely recommend this detergent as I can't find any fault with it, but you really will have to try it for yourself and smell the lovely fragrance, to see what I'm talking about. I have to give this detergent 5 stars because I just love the smell of it.
Thank you for reading my review which is also posted on Ciao
Surf Small & Mighty Carnival Burst with Tangerine is provided in a plastic bottle with a screw top lid which doubles up as a 35ml measuring cap to measure out enough liquid for one full load of washing.
I usually use around half a capful because I never have soiled washing or any stains etc but if you had a heavily soiled load then a full capful should suffice.
The liquid is quite pale in colour and fairly thick (because it's concentrated). It has a very nice scent to it as soon as the bottle is opened and it's a delicious citrus style scent and it goes in to the machine and is all easily washed in to the machine from the drawer just a minute or two after the wash has started. My clothes smelt and looked very clean and I did not notice any residue on my clothes or inside the machine after use. The glorious smell certainly lives up to it's Carnival tag with lots of different fragrances bursting out of my clothes and my clothes were scented throughout the day with a lovely fresh scent that uplifted my mood even further than it already was! My other half commented on how nice the bedlinen smelt when I used this for washing and he never notices things like that so it must be strongly scented!
A 730ml bottle of this is available from Sainsburys for around £2.98 although it's currently on offer for £1.98 and this will last for at least 21 washes, however, I usually use a half capful so this will last even longer. I think that this is a bargain price and the product is fantastic.
I would definitely recommend this liquid as it brings a refreshing, clean scent to all of my clothes and cleans well and this is why I am rating this liquid 5/5.
I have always used washing powder never really being tempted to try the liquid types that are the market now, but after seeing this on offer at Asda the other week I thought I would give it a go!
The product I will now review is - Surf small and mighty - carnival burst and tangerine"
As many of you are aware these kind of products are becoming more and more concentrated by the day, so I was gob smacked to see the actual size of this bottle, this being half the size of a bottle of coke and claiming to be able to wash 20 loads....yeah right!
One thing that I always have a lot off in my house is washing, and I do get through an extortionate amount of washing products, so anything that gives more a little more space in my cupboards would be an advantage!
As mentioned before the bottle is smallish and holds 730ml of liquid detergent. As this is an "tangerine" scented item the bottle is coloured accordingly, being a lovely bright orange colour with plenty of streamers pictured too, this is I assume for the carnival aspect!
I was hopeful scent wise as it states that this contains essential oils, this to me equates to the aromatherapy oils that you can get and that are so potent they stick with you for the day!
Instructions for use are simple, once you have loaded up the machine with your dirty washing you pour one cap full into the washing machine drawer, for more heavily soiled items simply up the dosage by half a cap.
I have always used fabric softener in my loads, but thought that this would not need any due to the strong smelling liquid, so I left it for the first wash to see how the washing came out.
Another thing to mention is the fact that detergent works perfectly well at 30c, this is of course better for the environment and your electric bills!
Well after the wash had finished, I pulled all the washing out of the machine and felt....well, disappointed!
The clothes were indeed clean, but there was no scent I could detect at all, I do like my clothes to smell fresh and scented, so much so, that my husbands work mates tease him about how nice his clothes do smell, I take that as a complement....he doesn't! Lol.
After drying the clothes were clean and even reasonably soft, even with the lack of softener, so from that respect the detergent did exactly what it was meant to.
This detergent was brought for the sum of £2.00, at full price I would imagine it would set you back around the £3.60 mark.
Will I buy again, if it was on offer again yes but I would add my scented conditioner to the loads, full price, no, I shall stick to my powders for now!

I absolutely love it when I walk into my mums and she has her washing on the aromas floating around the house are beautiful and her washing smells exactly the same once dry. She isn't brand loyal to be honest instead she just buys whatever she likes the smell of when she goes shopping. One thing which was rather refreshingly fruity flowing around her home the other day was Surf Small & Mighty Carnival Burst and tangerine.
Surf Small & Mighty is a concentrated liquid detergent designed to provide less packaging for the same amount of washes thanks to the strong and 'mighty' detergent that really works apparently. It comes in a 730ml decorated plastic bottle which we are told can provide us with 20 washes. The bottle is a white background then decorated in pretty peach flowers and leaves with what looks like tangerine peel at the bottom all very attractive and fresh. We are told it is Surf Small & Mighty with essential oils Carnival Burst and Tangerine being the fragrance. We are also informed on the front of the bottle that this is 2 x concentrate.
The back of the bottle tells us that this concentrated detergent is ideal for 30 degrees and it also provides us with brief guidelines as to how much to use. It is easy to measure your amount though thanks to the peachy coloured cap that screws off and acts as a cup for you to pour your liquid into. You simple pour the cap of detergent into the drawer of your washing machine and let it work it's magic.
The smell is intense, fruity and fresh .. reminds me of a summers day, cooling cocktails breezy and revitalising. The scent is dominantly fruity, oranges and peaches sort of smell with a light and airy floral fragrance mixed in slightly, very nice indeed!
I couldnt wait for the load to finish, and once it had I could still smell that stunningly fruity scent, unfortunately though it hadn't quite cleaned what I'd needed it too! Claiming that this is small and 'mighty' is a bit misleading if you ask me as it didn't seem to lift any marks at all, the easiest of marks that seem to come off with lower brands of detergent and powders still remained on my washing. My clothes did smell lovely and felt quite soft, but I wanted them clean too as that is what detergents are meant to do but this just didn't follow through for me unfortunately. It is a shame as the smell is beautiful but I need a detergent that will clean my clothes, especially with having twin toddlers.
This is not my usual washing choice but as I had run out of my usual and did not fancy a trip to Tesco just for washing powder then I went to my local shop and this was the only decent product on the shelf. I was a little dubious about it as the bottle is small and it is a liquid where as I normally use powder but I decided to give it a go.
The bottle is plastic and it is white with a lovely pattern of orange streamers all around the side with pictures of tangerines at the bottom. The title of the product is in the middle in blue and orange lettering. The back of the bottle has all the relevant info about the washing powder including, required amounts, directions for use, ingredients and contact info if you have any problems with the liquid. The top of the bottle is bright orange and this is the measuring cap which can be found on the inside of the lid.
The bottle states that it has enough liquid for 20 washes but for me this seemed a little far fetched ass I usually use a lot of powder to make sure the clothes come out clean but with this as it is concentrated I decided to follow the directions on the back of the bottle. It is recommended that for a standard load of 4/5kg then one capful is enough but for heavy soiled clothes or larger loads then it recommends one and a half capfuls. Also if you live in a hard water area then use the larger amount of the liquid.
For me as it was only washing school clothes and normal everyday trousers and tops went for the 1 capful as they were not too dirty and I thought that this would be enough. When opening the lid I instantly noticed the smell which was very pleasant. It smells very much like oranges with a light floral fragrance added to it. It was not overpowering at all.
I poured the liquid which is a nice creamy colour into the lid where there is a small section inside for this to be measured and then poured it into the dispenser on my washing machine. I did find that the liquid did not all come out of the measuring area but as this is separate from the edge of the lid then it did not run down the side of the bottle then I put this back on top of the bottle.
I was expecting good things from this washing liquid as it was expensive and Surf is a well known brand but for me it just did not make the grade. I found that it did not remove beans from white school tops and neither did it remove the paint which my eldest decided to get on his school trousers. Now some might say that this may be because of the paint type of the amount of beans but my normal cheap powder removes these items no problems and leaves no mark. I did re wash the clothes using more of the liquid but it still made no difference to the stains.
I did notice that when the clothes were dry they did smell very nice and I was still able to smell the fragrance after the clothes had been put away in the wardrobe and then got out a few days later. It is not an overpowering smell but it is noticeable when I has having cuddles from my boys and their clothes were right next to me.
The ingredients of this liquid for those who wish to know are:-
15-30% Anionic surfactants, Non-ionic surfactants
<5% Perfume, Polycarboxylates,Phosphonates, Optical brighteners, Butylphenyl, Methylopropional, Enzymes, Geraniol.
There are a couple of warning and recommendations on the back of the bottle and these include not using this on silk or wool fabric, always wash dark colours separately, don't soak leather clothes with metal fasteners or flame resistant fabrics, do not wash flame resistant fabrics above 50 deg. Celsius.
One warming I would give is to keep this out of reach of small children as there is no safety cap and the lid is very easy to remove.
~~PRICE AND AVAILABILITY~~
I bought this from my local Londis shop for £2.99 but when I went into Tesco last I did look at their price and they are selling it for £2.89. For me this s a little high as I use so much of it. It comes in a 730ml bottle and it states that it has 20 washes inside.
Overall I am not going to recommend this product as it did not get rid of the stains on my clothes but it did leave a wonderful smell on them and it also allowed me to stick to washing at 30deg's. Back to my tried and tested cheap brand then!
After using two bottles of Ariel Excel Gel liquid detergent, I decided to switch to another brand. Surf Small & Mighty caught my eye as I was shopping in Tesco. The white slender plastic bottle with pastel and summer flower designs looks attractive on the shelf. It was offering at £2 per bottle, which I believe is a promotional price. After looking at the different fragrance, I decided on the Small & Mighty Carnival Burst with Tangerine.
This is a super concentrated biological liquid detergent which contains natural essential oils. Essential oils are known to be therapeutic and the fragrant is usually more subtle. I bought the 730ml bottle which is useful for 20 washes. Using only one capful on a full load, my clothes feel clean and best of all; it gives a fresh and citrus smell. I like the design of the cap. It is designed in such a way that excess liquid detergent does not drip out of the bottle after closing.
Though the Surf Small & Mighty Carnival Burst with Tangerine is not suitable for woollen clothing, I will probably be using this brand for a long while. I hope the price would stay the same if not reduced after the promotion.
Doing the washing on a sunny summer day has to be almost classed as a pleasure compared to drying endless items indoors on clothes horses, or in tumble dryers, which guzzle their way through endless units of electricity.
The choice of liquid, powder or tablets these days is so vast that if you are in a superstore you will probably be overwhelmed by the sheer choices of products. Most of these will do a perfectly good job, but some are my favourites because they provide outstanding results for my most important criteria which I insist on for a wash which comes out clean and fresh smelling. This is more important in the winter when drying indoors, but even in the summer the scent of newly washed clothes drying in the wind demands a good product to ensure the clothes come in smelling fresh too.
For the purposes of this product I am talking about the whites wash because Surf Carnival Burst with Tangerine is a biological product and I wouldn't use this on any coloured items which I wanted to preserve for as along as possible in their vibrant shades. For whites it is outstanding and I'll tell you why.
First price-in this difficult economically challenged time, many of us are looking to prune our shopping bills down.
All the surf liquids are cheap, rrp is £2.99 but I have not paid this for ages, as it is nearly always possible to purchase these at about the £2 mark. This will buy a bottle containing 750mls and each capful of 35ml will do a full load as it is concentrated.
Second is the fact that the product works well at low temperatures and is ideal for 30 degrees. I like this as it saves energy, expense, and it does clean well, however I do have one comment to make about this under the opinion section which follows at the end of the review.
Third is the fragrance, Surf now make these concentrated liquids in 4 varieties although the most common two, lavender and oriental blossom and the yellow sunshine lemon and bergamot are the most well stocked. The tangerine and the other new one Surf Small & Mighty Tempting Nature with Rainflow are a bit more difficult to track down but I buy mine from Waitrose. The tangerine version is absolutely lovely. It has a delicate orange scent and is fresh and citrusy and the smell lingers on the clothes through all the stages of the laundry process through to ironing.
The product contains natural essential oils, and these make the laundry smell fresh which is ideal for whites.
I have a smaller family these days as my son has emigrated to America and my daughters are away at uni. However I still seem to have a lot of washing due to a son of 17 and a husband who works in city of London. Both wear white shirts so that is 10 per week and we use white linen sheets and towels, and all these challenge my washing skills each week. I use many different products and often buy things on offer, but I have settled over the years on these liquids which have evolved so much since the days I was in my teens, when Surf really was promoted as the basic product and was referred to as a "square deal"! Then it was a powder which I don't buy too often any more as I am never happy about the residues which can often stay on the clothes at certain programmes, so the Surf liquid works well. All the varieties are lovely but the tangerine is especially so as it has this really summer day freshness and is a lovely pure white creamy liquid.
I love the fact that you just pour the liquid into the drawer as there is no need for those dosing balls which often end up as cat ping pong toys, and I can never find them. The clothes are always spotless. As we are all sedentary workers I can't comment on whether it would work with severely stained clothing, but I can assure you that it does a brilliant job on vet clothes which my daughter brings home sometimes after her work on farms leaves them in need of some severe cleaning, though I do soak these in Milton first to avoid contaminating the machine.
My only problem with this liquid and with all the products which claim to work at low temperatures is that you have to run the machine empty at least once a week at 90 degrees to really stop any bacteria from forming, and you must remove the clothes as soon as the cycle is finished. I will often run some soda crystals through from time to time, or a little bleach, as it keeps the drum fresh and I also leave the door open slightly to allow air flow which stops mould. Cheap white vinegar also works well for this job.
I would never use this for coloured or delicate fabrics or for anyone who is allergic to biological liquids, but for outstanding cleaning and a lovely smell too this good value product is well worth trying.
It rinses out completely at the end of the cycle and the fragrance is really special. It actually smells like Seville oranges, and is actually becomes almost a pleasure to embark on a basket of washing!
As the product is concentrated it takes less lorries to distribute it, and so it is also good for the environment and it lasts a long time so less heavy to carry from the shops.
All in all it's a great product as long as you remember to clean the machine with a hotter wash periodically, especially before you go on holiday, as this is when the mould build up can occur if you leave the machine damp and unused for some time. This is especially true if all you do is run it as 30 degrees. The manufacturers never tell you this but it is the side effect of trying to be green!
The packaging is extremely attractive and overall it contains a product which is excellent value for money.
