REVIEW OF TESCO BLEACH

Household bleach or sodium hydrochloride, is a product we all know and have probably all used at some time or another. Bleach is one of those products that seems to have dropped out of fashion in recent years in favour of more environmentally friendly brands and fancier household cleaners. I am however rather old fashioned and do prefer to use bleach for a variety of household chores, as it is a versatile cleaner, whitener and germ killing fluid.

In these days of financial crunch, I decided to shun the more expensive brand I usually purchase and tried Tesco's own brand of thin bleach. At 28p for 2 litres, it was almost £2 cheaper than my usual buy, a well known bleach which currently sells in Tesco for £2.21 for 2 litres! With this in mind, to be honest I didn't hold out much hope for the efficiency of the Tesco version.

**THE PRODUCT AND APPEARANCE**

As a basic product the packaging is bland, plain and quite boring! The bleach is presented in a white plastic bottle with a red child proof screw top. The Tesco logo is on the top left of the label, with the product description in red beneath it. The label also bears a picture of a blue sink plug hole.
The rear of the label carries safety warnings to keep the product out of reach of children, the product may be irritating to the skin, contains sodium hydrochloride solution. A telephone number is provided for further advice (01992 632222). The bleach container also has an embossed Braille script to inform visually impaired consumers of the above warnings.

The bleach itself is a thin, almost clear liquid, it does carry the usual 'bleachy' smell , but this is not quite as strong as with other brands.
Price, as I have already mentioned, is cheap at 28p for 2 litres.

**WARNINGS**

Exercise caution when using bleach as it will strip the colour from clothing and textiles if splashed. Bleach can damage your skin, so do protect your hands. Bleach is toxic and it should be stored well out of reach of children and pets. Also, bleach should never be mixed with ammonia, as dangerous chlorine gas can be produced which is highly toxic. If inhaled, it will irritate the airways, causing wheezing, and coughing and make the eyes sting and smart.

**MY EXPERIENCE AND CONCLUSION**

My initial use of the bleach was for the boring job of cleaning the toilet, it doesn't get more basic than this! The bleach, being a thin liquid, does not cling to the sides of the bowl, it literally dribbles down the sides and into the water. A quick soak and then flush away is my daily cleaning routine, Tesco bleach came up to scratch and it performed well. I have also used it diluted for cleaning kitchen work surfaces and neat as a drain cleaner. Despite the products cheap price it has worked well and in my opinion is certainly worth switching over to.

Thank you for reading.
