Advantages: It's cheap, it works, doesn't smell of bleach
Disadvantages: Doesn't smell of citrus, only available at Tesco (obviously!)
There are some brands I stay loyal to, and some things I believe you get what you pay for. Bleach, however, is not one of these. I only really use bleach for cleaning the toilet and occasionally unblocking sinks, and have separate cleaners for everything else that needs doing. For my requirements, Tesco bleach is perfectly adequate - nothing fancy, but it does the job.
The one I use comes in a yellow bottle. It's called Tesco Thick Bleach in Citrus, and claims to be effective for 24 hours. The bottle is tall and they advise that you keep it upright and store in a cool dry place. It has a safety lid which you take off by pressing down and squeezing. This is a good safety feature and also prevents any spillage in the event of the bottle falling over. There are instructions on the back telling you how to use it depending on what you're cleaning (sometimes it's best not to use it neat, for example if you're leaving it to soak overnight), but generally I just chuck some down the toilet each day to keep it sparkling.
The bleach comes out through the piercing at the top, so it doesn't all rush out at once. The bottle neck is straight though, so it's not that easy to reach into nooks and crannies like some of the "swan-necked" brands. It does spread though if you aim it and give it a good squeeze. The colour is slightly yellow, but it doesn't really smell of citrus. Having said that, it doesn't have that awful bleach smell either so it's somewhere in the middle, it just smells clean.
The bleach does a good job of cleaning the toilet, and leaves a clean looking froth on top of the toilet water. This disappears after 2 or 3 flushes, but the bowl always comes up sparkling clean, and I have peace of mind that my bathroom is clean. I only use it occasionally on plugholes when they get blocked. You have to be careful where you're aiming when doing this as you don't want bleach all over the kitchen sink, so just aim carefully and go slowly. I've never had a sink that hasn't been unblocked by this bleach, although ours don't get blocked very often.
This bleach is currently on sale in Tesco for 67 pence for a 750ml bottle, although they are currently on offer for 2 for £1.20. Those of you who are getting to know me on here will know that I am a fan of "stocking up" when I see things on offer (I get this from my mother!) which results in my cupboards overflowing with handwash, bleach, washing powder, but nothing to actually eat when we get peckish in the evening. Still, as Tesco themselves would say, "Every Little Helps", and the money saved on little cutbacks like this all mounts up.
For a cleaner which does the job, why pay more?
Summary: Another good penny saver from Tesco
