“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Cling Film „
At times in a bid to reduce my weekly shopping bill I have tried cheaper cling film options, including the Tesco value range, and to be honest, I only ever buy them once as I am so disappointed with them, and always end up back with the main Tesco clingfilm, which I think is a good value option for a decent cling. I'm sure there are better, more expensive options in terms of clingfilm on the shelves, but I am not willing to pay those premiums and so this is a compromise.
A 50m roll of Tesco clingfilm costs just over £2, which is an average price. As you can see from the picture above the clingfilm comes in a light box and you can purchase this in a roll of 25m as well, which is obviously cheaper but not as good value as the longer roll.
When you open the roll, you need to find the start of it, which actually has as raised edge to help with this. I like the fact that this clingfilm is both microwave safe and freezer safe, although I have only ever used for the former, without any difficulties. In regards to cutting the film as you need it, I have found that in general the box has quite a good cutting edge and most of the time I can cut the clingfilm easily without tearing, but there have been occasions when I haven't found it as easy, particularly if I am in a hurry or have my daughter in my arms.
In terms of covering things, this roll is 350mm in depth and I find it a good size to cover dishes, bowls and even plates if I am putting something in the fridge for later. I have found that this clingfilm keeps food as fresh as possible and it does protect food well, when it is being cooked in the mirowave.
THe only complaint I would have, and I have found this with a lot of clingfilms is that it can sometimes get caught with the edge of it sticking and I have to go back and unwind it all, a job which I hate! That said, I found this to be a worse problem with cheaper brands especially the value brand.
All in all, I now always purchase this Tesco clingfilm after having so many negative experiences with cheaper ones. There is probably even better on the shelves, but for the price you pay you are getting value for money.
Cling film is a product that I use most days and as such always make sure that I have some. I have been using this Tesco own brand for a few years now as it does the job at a reasonable price.
This cling film comes in a cardboard box with a few features to make using it easier. First of all you can press in either end of the box to act as a roll holder. This isn't as simple as it sounds as although the cardboard is perforated it doesn't depress easily but once you have achieved this it does hold the roll in place.
Another feature you which you would expect on a cling film box is a cutting edge. The one on this box is made of cardboard and although not as good as a metal strip it does cleanly cut the film. The end of the film is then left held in place by a sticky spot making it easy to find the end next time you come to use it.
The cardboard box itself could do with being a bit stronger as it often squashes when I am pulling the film against the cutter.
Using the film
Dispensing it from the box is easy enough but I find that I need to be generous with my pieces so that whatever I am wrapping is fully covered. If it doesn't overlap and stick to itself it often wont stick to the packet I am wrapping. I don't have the same problem if I am trying to cover a dish or glass bowl as it sticks to these with no problem.
The cling film is 35cm wide I find suitable for most of my needs as you just adjust the length you use to get the correct sized piece.
What can it be used for?
This cling film is suitable for microwave and can also be used to cover food in the fridge or freezer. You are advised not to let the film touch your food if using it in a microwave.
Price and availability
This Tesco own brand can be found in their stores or at Tesco groceries online. The product is available in 3 lengths 25m, 50m and 100. They are currently (October 2012) priced at £1.28, £2.20 and £3.60 respectively.
Would I recommend?
Yes, I have never had any problems with this cling film splitting or tearing and think it is a good quality product at a reasonable price. It only loses a dooyoo star for the box not being strong enough.
Tesco clingfilm is appalling stuff. I have a roll of 50m clingfilm that I bought last week and already, it has ripped so that when you unroll some, you only get half the width and then you get a thick piece at one end where it hasn't unrolled, and the piece that has unrolled gradually gets narrower and narrower. This is the third time this has happened with Tesco clingfilm. It's total rubbish and a waste of money, and I won't be buying it again.Never get this problem with Co-op clingfilm.
Tesco Cling Film is something which we use on a really regular basis and we always have some in our kitchen cupboards. We use it most days for wrapping sandwiches and other food stuffs up for me for work and my other half and our son for lunch boxes
Tesco Cling Film is particularly good in my personal opinion because you have a great choice of sizes. The film is housed in a long thin cardboard tube / box with a cutting edge running along the side so you can pull it out and simple take off as much or as little as you actually want to use. It can be a bit awkard as the teeth on the cutting edge lose their ability to cut well after a bit I feel and I often resort to using a pair of scicors.
You can buy it as I say, in three different sizes: Large 100m for £3.06, Medium 50m for £2.04 or small 25m for £1.28. Every size is the same width of 350mm. Obviously, it is more economical and cost effective to buy the large roll and we often do but it is also more difficult to store as our kitchen cupboard isn't that big.
You can also use this stuff in your microwave oven, your fridge and your freezer and I can say that we have used all of these appliances and it is fine. We particularly use it for wrapping unused food and putting it into our outdoor freezer.
It is a great versatile product and useful for so many things. It is cheap and easy to find and readily available and i would recommend it.

Cling film, what a clever invention this stuff really is, it can be used for so many different things and personally I am never without a roll of this in my cupboard, a roll of this lives alongside my kitchen foil and greaseproof paper and I am never without any of them. Even this Tesco Cling Film is worth the money I pay for it.
~Tesco Cling Film~
For around £3.00 I can buy a 100m roll of cling film which is about 35cm wide, all wrapped neatly and tightly on the cardboard tube inside the cardboard box which has quite a sharp serrated edge in which to cut the cling film, which I might add is of really good quality. I can pull the cling film easily from the roll and cut the amount I need with the serrated edge, it cuts off very neatly but only for the first few times I use it. It doesn't take long before I manage to squash the box and rip the edge, so the box becomes useless for cutting the cling film, I do wish they would make boxes like this stronger, it's a real downfall for products such as these, the box always lets the product down. I usually end up having to bite the edge of the cling film and find that it just rips from the roll with no problem, it doesn't wrap itself up and become useless when I have to bite it and rip it, it remains perfectly straight, ready for me to use it. I've had to bite and rip this cling film that often, I think I've got it down to a fine art now.
~I use it for loads of things~
I use this cling film for a number of different things, the main one being, wrapping little cakes and things that I add to Josh's lunch box, sometimes cling film wraps things tighter than food bags and so leaves more room in the lunch box. I also use this cling film to cover things that I put in the fridge to keep for a while. It is used for covering plates of sandwiches and cakes etc. especially in the summer when the flies are about. I could go on and on about the different things I use this cling film for, it is such useful stuff I find.
~It works as well~
The cling film works well too, I know once I cover, lets say a plate of sandwiches, the cling film sticks where I want it and doesn't peel itself off or come unstuck until I decide I want the cling film removing. I can always count on this cling film, that is why I buy it and will continue to buy it. I would definitely recommend this cling film, especially if you use it as much as I do, I think it's worth every penny.
Tesco Cling Film is from Tesco of course, and costs around £3.00 for a 100m roll, it lasts me forever and I constantly use it, well worth the money in my opinion.
Please remember to keep products such as these away from small children to avoid the risk of suffocation.
5 Stars for Tesco Cling Film, it's really handy stuff and it works properly.
