Advantages: Protects and covers food well
Disadvantages: Can sometimes get stuck and caught up
At times in a bid to reduce my weekly shopping bill I have tried cheaper cling film options, including the Tesco value range, and to be honest, I only ever buy them once as I am so disappointed with them, and always end up back with the main Tesco clingfilm, which I think is a good value option for a decent cling. I'm sure there are better, more expensive options in terms of clingfilm on the shelves, but I am not willing to pay those premiums and so this is a compromise.
A 50m roll of Tesco clingfilm costs just over £2, which is an average price. As you can see from the picture above the clingfilm comes in a light box and you can purchase this in a roll of 25m as well, which is obviously cheaper but not as good value as the longer roll.
When you open the roll, you need to find the start of it, which actually has as raised edge to help with this. I like the fact that this clingfilm is both microwave safe and freezer safe, although I have only ever used for the former, without any difficulties. In regards to cutting the film as you need it, I have found that in general the box has quite a good cutting edge and most of the time I can cut the clingfilm easily without tearing, but there have been occasions when I haven't found it as easy, particularly if I am in a hurry or have my daughter in my arms.
In terms of covering things, this roll is 350mm in depth and I find it a good size to cover dishes, bowls and even plates if I am putting something in the fridge for later. I have found that this clingfilm keeps food as fresh as possible and it does protect food well, when it is being cooked in the mirowave.
THe only complaint I would have, and I have found this with a lot of clingfilms is that it can sometimes get caught with the edge of it sticking and I have to go back and unwind it all, a job which I hate! That said, I found this to be a worse problem with cheaper brands especially the value brand.
All in all, I now always purchase this Tesco clingfilm after having so many negative experiences with cheaper ones. There is probably even better on the shelves, but for the price you pay you are getting value for money.
Summary: A good clingfilm
