Do I really want to write a review of toilet roll? Is there really that much to say about it? Well, maybe not that much but I felt it was worth commenting on Tesco's luxury toilet roll due to the recent and consistent downturn in the quality.

I've been using the Tesco own brand toilet roll quite happily for years. Despite being called 'Luxury' I wouldn't class it as that, but it is soft enough and quite adequate, much better than rough and non-absorbant 'value' brands I've tried.

The last 5 times or so that I have bought this toilet roll I have had problems with it, occasionally the paper is not aligned properly and has a bit of a jagged edge, not sharp though so just a aesthetic problem really. I've also found that consistently the roll has not been perforated correctly making it difficult to tear the sheets off.

Now although this is annoying I suppose its not actually a deal breaker but in my disillusionment I happened to have a better look at the toilet roll shelf and noticed that Andrex is only slightly more expensive, and in fact when on offer often works out cheaper. Its currently on offer at £1.69 rather than £1.99 for 4 rolls, compared with £1.83 for 4 rolls of Tesco - I haven't got much space so try to avoid being tempted by the giant packs.

As well as being cheaper if you buy it at the right time and tearing properly, Andrex is slightly thicker and softer so an all round better buy. Not to mention the fact that my 18 month old son loves carrying round the pack with the picture of the dogs on and I get to save up tokens to try and get him his very own Andrex puppy (keyring) - woof woof!
