Advantages: smells nice, gentle, cheap
Disadvantages: none
I like to use fabric conditioner with my wash, but don't like to pay loads for it! I've found that a lot of the cheaper brands are just as good as the pricier ones, and with a recent online shop ordered myself a bottle of Tesco's pure fabric conditioner.
The fabric conditioner is called Pure and the front of the bottle shows a picture of a baby, which would suggest it is suitable for washing your children's clothes. It does say on the back however, that no fabric conditioner can be guaranteed suitable for sensitive skin. I don't have children but I do suffer from eczema, and have an allergy to 2 in 1 washing powders, so I am always a little cautious when trying a new brand, and thought as this was more gentle than the highly fragranced ones it may be better for me.
The conditioner comes in a plastic bottle like the one featured. As it is concentrated the bottle is fairly small to cut down on packaging and save room in your cupboards. There are clear directions for use on the back too, and it assures us that neither the product nor its ingredients have been tested on animals.
A standard load of washing needs just one 40ml capful, but you may need to use more for larger loads. You can also use this for hand washing, using just 18ml - just under half a cap, but I must admit that I have never tried it this way.
The fabric conditioner is white in colour and as soon as you remove the lid you are hit by a gorgeous fragrance. It's a very gentle scent, which is fresh, clean and inoffensive. It's also pretty neutral and would be fine for washing boys clothes - I often think some of these conditioners can smell incredibly feminine and wonder what men think when their wives wash their clothes in strong flowery smelling conditioner!
Given the lovely strong fragrance before I put this in the machine, I was surprised that I couldn't really smell it on my clothes immediately after taking them out of the machine. They did smell fresh, it's just that there wasn't an immediately noticeable fragrance on my clothes as I normally get from other conditioners.
Once dry I thought the fresh smell on my clothes was more noticeable, and when I ironed my clothes the lovely fragrance really seemed to come out again. It also appears to have kept my clothes in good condition - cotton clothes especially seem to become bobbly quite quickly if I don't use conditioner in my wash.
It does seem to have been gentle on my skin too and I don't seem to have suffered any sort of reactions since I began using it.
This comes in two sizes - 750ml costing 95p which will give you 21 washes and 1.5l costing £1.84 and giving 42 washes. Compared to the leading brand Comfort this is really good value. As it is a Tesco product, obviously it will only be found in Tesco stores.
Overall I'm quite pleased with this product and would certainly buy it again in the future. It's cheaper than the leading brand but seems to do exactly the same thing. Recommended.
