I'm not a fan of using the tumble dryer if I can help it. I much prefer hanging washing out on the line to dry. However, with the good old British Weather being as unreliable as ever this year, sometimes you just don't have a choice. I prefer hanging washing out to dry because I love the fresh smell that's left on your washing when its dried (not to mention the cost saving on my electricity bill!). However, after a trip around Tescos a few weeks ago I noticed Tesco Summer Fresh Tumble Dryer Sheets on the shelves and thought I'd give them a try.

This isn't the kind of thing I'd normally buy. At present like most other families in the country we are on quite a tight budget and have started buying just the necessities on my weekly shop. However these looked quite intriguing and were pretty cheap so took a box home and tried them out a few days later.

The Product

Tesco Tumble Dry Sheets are white cotton-like sheets which each measure 8.5"x 6.5". As soon as you open the box you are hit with a really strong 'summer-like fragrance mixed in with a clean-washing type smell. The sheets are really soft to the touch and have an almost 'moistened' thin coated layer on top of the sheet which I presume is what provides the scent as when you touch the sheet you are left with the scent all over your hands.

Quite simple really. When you have done a load of washing, simply place that load of washing in the tumble dryer and add just one tumble-dry sheet to the top of that load of washing and start your tumble dryer.

Price/Packaging

I was really amazed at the price of these Tumble Dry Sheets. You get a box of 40 for just 98p per box. You only need one sheet per load of washing so a box will last you for 40 washes. Excellent value for money in my opinion with each sheet costing just over 2p each. The sheets are encased within a rectangular cardboard box. The box is a sky-blue colour with yellow flowers scattered around the box and bears the Tesco logo with Summer Fresh scrawled across the front in bold white lettering.

The box itself is recyclable, though one warning would be to not get the box wet as since it is made of card, it is not waterproof so getting the box wet could mean ruining the product inside.

Results

Very impressive indeed. When I took the dry washing out of the tumble dryer I was immediately hit with a really lovely smell from my washing. It smelt as fresh as if I had hung it outside, perhaps even fresher. I was impressed to find that the sheet itself was still intact and hadn't disintegrated all over my clean washing. There wasn't even a hint of any 'bits' from the sheet over my washing.

The box states that it helps reduce creasing and static on your washing too. There was no evidence of any static on my washing and although I believe that tumble drying reduces creasing and makes ironing easier anyway, some items that would still need ironing even after being in the tumble dryer, appeared to me to be crease-free. All in all I believe that this cheap little box of tumble dryer sheets does exactly what it says on the tin (or box as it is!).
