Advantages: Very good for home use.

Disadvantages: Noise.

In these days of all sorts of identity fraud taking place, you are wise to shred all of your official documents before recycling or binning them, this where the cheapo Tesco shredder comes in.

I will not recommend this for office use, but for shredding stuff at home it is perfect. made in China (where else?) it is a simple device consisting of a ten litre waste paper bin, and plonked on top, is a small lump of plastic, housing a motor and revolving blades. The method of operation is simple, - Stuff paper in - It shreds! end of story!

It will take single sheets of A4 no problem, it will handle more than one sheet, and the manufacturers say it will take up to five sheets at a time, but the sound tells you it is not really happy, so one or two at a time is fine in the home. Talking about the sound, it is noisy, although you can put up with this for the few seconds it takes.

I must add that this shredder is not designed for dealing with CDs or paperclips. The machine plugs into the mains, and I must say that the lead is a little short. Apart from that, there is nothing else wrong with this little machine.

There is a reverse function in case of jams, and the slot is designed so you can not fit your fingers into the cutting blades.

The cost of this little beauty? Less than a tenner at the time of purchase, however, if these are still in stock, you may be lucky to find one on sale at reduced price, so that would be the bargain of the century!

What to do with the shredded paper? OK, if you know of a child with some kind of furry animal, you should NOT supply the bedding. I have had two readers comment that this can give them paper cuts. Alternatively, place in your normal paper recycling bin, although I have heard stories that shredded paper can not be recycled, but I have had no trouble whatsoever in my area.

The chances are, you will have some kind of waste paper basket next to your comp, and this will take it's place, so there is no excuse of not having any room for one.

You can shred different coloured paper, so the younger kids cam make wigs and stuff, Blue Peter Style, or don't kids do that any more?

Summary: A good product, very safe.

Not good for pets but makes good packing material - or good confetti!
