“ Brand: Tesco / Type: All Purpose Filler / Category: Home Fragrance „
When we moved into our house it need a bit of electrical work doing which unfortunately caused some damage to the walls, since our walls are wallpapered we thought a cheap filler would do the job as it didn't really have to be perfect.
The product comes from Tesco as it is part of their Value range which has now been changed to the Everyday Value range. I can't remember exactly what I paid but a tube of 180mls costs £1.96 currently.
The filler which is ready made so can be used straight from the tube comes in a white plastic tube which is flexible enough to be squeezed. The tube has a screw top cap on it and has the Tesco Value logo and name on the front along with the information that it is for interior use only. The packaging is very simple but then the whole of the Tesco Value range is and of course that helps the price not be too high.
The product inside the tube is light grey-white in colour and is a thick consistency like most fillers, I had thought being a value product it may have been a little thin but was pleasantly surprised. The filler came out of the tube pretty easily and stuck to the wall well, at times I found it was a little too sticky and stuck to the pallet knife rather than the wall so it did take a while to work with it and manage to make the surface smooth.
The filler is touch dry within an hour and it states on the packaging that you can sand it after an hour however I found when sanding it that the layers underneath were actually still damp and so I would recommend leaving it more than an hour if you are not in a rush.
The filler is easy to sand once dry and gives a nice smooth surface ready for decorating. I would recommend this product although it can be a little difficult to work with the price is great and it gives a good finish.
Since moving into our home nearly 3 years ago we have gradually been doing it up and decorating it to our taste, this has required a bit of minor repair to walls, in the main I have used a powder form of interior filler but the last time I bought some I opted for Tesco Value ready made filler
Tesco All Purpose Interior Filler is sold in a white plastic tube with a white screw top lid. The front of the tube shows the Tesco Value logo and informs the customer that this filler is for interior use only, once dried it can be nailed or drilled into and should not shrink or crack.
The back of the tube gives the directions for use which are similar to other fillers of this type, there are a few warnings and some storage advice too, all of this is easy to read and there for anyone who wishes to do so.
The first time I used this filer was when the weather was cooler and I had quite a hard job to squeeze it from the tube, once I managed to actually get some out the value filler looks just like any regular filler, its slightly off white in colour and has the consistency of a clay type substance. I used the filler as per instructions and waited for it to dry. Once dry the filler goes white and can be sanded down to a nice smooth surface. The value filler worked just as well as any other powder filler I've used in the past and I was pleased with the finished result.
The next time I used the filler the weather was hot and I had absolutely no problem squeezing it from the tube, in fact the filer was too runny. I found it was quite difficult to work with and didn't grip the wall very well at all. I did manage to use it and once dry the finish was good but using the filler when it was too soft was not ideal.
Overall I was pleased with the results I got from Tesco Value All Purpose Filer, the price was good at under a pound for a 180ml tube and the overall finish was a nice smooth wall ready for painting, however it does seem the weather has to be just right, too cold and you need to be a muscle man to squeeze it from the tube and if its too hot the filler is too runny to work with, once dried though the filler provides a good strong surface and we haven't experienced any cracking.
I don't know what to say about recommending this product, as a filler there's nothing wrong with it but it can be difficult to work with, I think in future I will stick to the powder form of interior filler, the convenience of having ready mixed is outweighed by the inconvenience of working with it.
