Advantages: cleans
Disadvantages: harder work than sprays
Tesco value cream cleaner
With the summer holidays upon us, I decided it was time to clean the cupboards. For this i took my mother's advise and bought cream cleaner rather than my usual spray and wipe. The idea is that it's going to be much harder work, but the results on cupboards which very few people see will be fantastic.
Not knowing much about them, i decided that this Tesco value looked as good as any, since it promises to be effective on stains, and states on the bottle that it will clean and shine all through the house...no, I'm not going that far!
PRODUCT AND PACKAGING
The bottle itself is reassuringly simple, as I expect of the value produts- plain white plastic 500ml bottle with the instructions and other bits of information on the front. The product itself is white, and quite thick, so it doesn't drip all over the place, and it has a definite lemony smell which is quite pleasant.
USING IT...
So, on with the cleaning. The directions tell me to shake the bottle and squeeze the cleaner onto a damp cloth or directly onto the surface (my preferred method). Then, simply wipe over the surface and rinse away immediately. I find the easiest way to rinse it away is to use a damp cloth once the surface has been wiped. So, it is double the work of a spray and clean cleaner. The reason, as I found, that it has to be completely wiped away is because if there is still a residue of the product left, then it does leave a definite chalky residue, which is not good. However, on the plus side, a quick wipe with a damp cloth seems to do the trick, but make sure you get into all ove the nooks and crannies because the cleaner if not wiped away will dry on the surface.
WARNINGS...
The usual warnings apply:
*keep away from children
*store upright in a clean dry place
* if it is contact with eyes rinse immediately
* avoid prolonged use if skin is damage. I would avoid prolonged contact whether skin is damaged or not, and would advise rubber gloves because it's very chalky to the touch
*do not swallow
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The cream cleaner is available instore at Tescos or online at www.tesco.com. At a very reasonable 30p for 500ml, it's certainly not going to break the bank.
WHAT I THOUGHT
The cream cleaner is actually less of a hassle to use than i had originally thought, as I thought there would be lots of wiping clean to do before the stuff was completely gone. Not a bit of it! One wipe with a damp cloth 9more damp than dry) and it's gone. The trick is to keep rinsing the cloth so that you are not re wiping with a cleaner covered cloth. The cupboards do actually look very clean, and one thing I found is that even quite stubborn stains come off easily. I believe this is because the cleaner is a tad more abrasive than the spray and wipe types.
I wouldn't like to do all of my cleaning with the stuff because it does take a bit more work, but I am now converted and tend to clean the bathrooms with it. This is actually easier than the cupboards because I can just spray the shower water over it to get rid of the stuff.
For a great value cleaner which really does work, i would recommend this, but remember the rubber gloves or your hands will dry out!
Thanks for reading.
