Advantages: Cheap and they do the job!
Disadvantages: might be too flimsy for some heavy duty uses
When it comes to the Tesco Value lines, I'm a big fan. Whilst I steer clear of certain things, mainly in the food department, I always try the Value lines when it comes to things like:
The Tesco Value Freezer Bags 50's
The premise behind the freezer bag is store food safely in the freezer instead of throwing any left over's away. Sometimes it is financially much wiser to make a lot of something and store what you want in the freezer. Remember, willful waste makes woeful want! So for this reason I purchased the Tesco Value Freezer Bags 50's having run out of my usual supply of zip lock bags.
In plain white cardboard packaging with the familiar Tesco Value colors of red, white and blue in the logo, there are 50 cellophane bags sized 22cm x28.5cm. To seal the bags there is a roll of white ties similar to the bread bag ties of the 1980's (aww mother's pride). The bags are see through and easy to detach from the other bags.
Cheap....very cheap; only 62p for the bag of 50. This compares very favorably with similar products with a bag of Tesco own brand Freezer Bags Medium costing 1.20 for 45.
There really isn't much to complain about with these. I stored a few different foods in the bags and although I was a little concerned with the flimsiness of the bags, all my fears were allayed as the spag bol, the curry and the left over drumsticks stayed fresh and protected in the bags placed in the freezer, secured using the ties accompanying the bags. I found the size more than adequate (what man doesn't?!!?) and was very happy with the purchase.
Comparison to Others
What I did note is that there are stronger and larger freezer bags on the market and with better locking/securing facilities. However, for these you would have to pay more than double the cost of the Tesco Value Freezer Bag 50's and most likely get a smaller amount.
For the price and the job they do these are a great little item. Although noticeably flimsier than other bags, they did the job of storing food safely in the freezer without any breakages or tears. I only use these occasionally and have yet to have cause for complaint. However, if I was freezing food a lot I can see how the flimsiness might be a problem but for me, for what you get, the job they do and the price you pay; they are very good and I would recommend them to anyone....and as chemical romance pointed out to me..... you can always double bag (I think she was referring to these)
