Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Incredibly thin

In this time of financial uncertainty, many of us are giving the supermarket 'value' range of products a go in order to save the pennies. In many cases this means a reduction in the quality of the groceries that we buy, but actually, a fair few value items (especially in the Tesco range) aren't too bad at all.

'Tesco Value Refuse Sacks' come in a packet of thirty and retail at 71p, which is equivalent to 2.4p per bag. If we compare that price to Tesco's standard 'Large Refuse Sacks' which come to 15p per bag, then you will appreciate the huge difference in price.

The product is sold 'on the roll', meaning you tear each one off as needed via the serrated edge at the bottom of each bag.

So are they any good?

Short answer... No. Tesco Value Refuse Sacks are absolutely awful - surely the thinnest and most easy to tear bin liners that have ever been created.

In my experience, you end up having to use two bags in order to hold even the softest of household rubbish. That said, even by using two bags at a time, they still work out more economical than regular price bin liners.

You would think Tesco would be able to make these liners just a little thicker - even if it meant adding a few pence to the price of each roll - i'm sure shoppers wouldn't mind paying slightly more if it meant not having to use two bags instead of one.

Unless you're only throwing away extremely light household rubbish, I would recommend steering clear of Tesco Value Refuse Sacks. Even though they are extremely cheap, they are probably one of the more frustrating value products - especially if you've just emptied the contents of the cats litter tray into one of these, and it's had the audacity to split - spilling the contents across the kitchen floor... not a pleasant experience.

In South Africa we have quite strong black or green rubbish bin liners at a reasonable price. I agree, bin liners that can not even hold the softest of household rubbish is hardly worth buying, no matter how cheap they are. Mayan820
