Advantages: They hold all my household rubbish, very cheap
Disadvantages: There's a risk of them splitting, you might find it too annoying to keep doubling your bags up
I don't use many black bags as I am a recycling fiend but when I do I always buy the cheapest bags possible, usually a roll of 20 from Poundland. I've used the Tesco Value ones in the past and found them not terribly good but last week I purchased another roll of these as they looked like they were thicker than they used to be.
For 71p for 30 these are certainly the cheapest bags I've come across and I must say for the price I'm quite impressed. The bags are noticably thicker than other 'cheap' refuse sacks and comfortably hold a reasonable amount of rubbish. They are a little smaller than a lot of other black bags on the market so bear this in mind if you have a particularly large bin, mine is an average sized kitchen bin and they fit well although are a little too snug across the top of the bin which is wider than the bottom.
I have had one catastrope where the bag split as I was pulling it out of the bin, luckily this happened as I was lifting it so all of the rubbish was contained in the bin itself but as it was dirty rubbish which included messy leftover spaghetti bolognese I was a little annoyed at having to get it all into another bag and then wash the bin out.
Other than this little mishap there have been no problems, sometimes if I have overfilled the bin the bag will split a little but not enough to cause mess. I don't tend to fill my bin to the top anyway so this is rarely an issue for me.
I have occasionally doubled the bags up when I know I shall be having particularly heavy or bulky rubbish and then there are no problems at all and the bags become much stronger. Last night I was sorting out my kitchen cupboards and threw quite a few metal and plastic items into the bin but because I had doubled the bags up neither of them split and they went safely into the refuse collection van this morning.
The bags are perforated, as are most bin bags which come on a roll. I have not had any problems with the perforations and have successfully separated every day without tearing it. This is unlike Sainsbury's Basics refuse sacks which I tried a few months ago where I wasted at least five due to the perforations stretching and tearing the bottom of the bag.
I find these ones a little awkward to open, but then aren't they all? I find if my hands are a bit dry then it's impossible to get them open but a quick lick of my fingers will usually rectify this, although a couple of days ago there was one that I am sure was glued shut as no amount of rubbing or plucking from me would get the thing to come open!
I can't fault these for the price at all. They wouldn't withstand too much abuse so I recommend heavy duty bags for particularly bulky rubbish, but for general household waste these are fine. Thinking about it even if you were to double up every single bag you used then you're still making a good saving compared to other refuse sacks in Tesco.
Summary: I cannot see the sense in spending a fortune to put your black bags out!
