In the ever growing search for good value products from various retailers, Tesco regularly come up trumps for me. Some of their Value range of products really do deserve their place as the lowest price in that range of items, but others are like hidden little gems.

One such gem that I have found are these 'pan cleaners', which clearly state in their name what the intended use should be. However, they are so much more versatile than just for cleaning pans and other dishes. You get five in a packet, and they usually cost around the 30p mark. The sponge is a couple of inches wide by three or so long and another couple deep, and it's topped with a thin layer of green scourer for those stubborn parts.

So, does it work? Well, yes and no. Some of the more welded on dirt you can get with burnt parts or the roasting tin are a lot harder to get off with these scrubbers than other more expensive ones, and the green scouring part can disintegrate and flake off somewhat earlier than you want it to, but as long as you know this, it's no great surprise. For less arduous scrubbing, they last quite well, and do the job marvellously with regular washing up.

I also them useful elsewhere around the house, particularly in the bathroom and for trying to get pen off the walls when our budding 5 year old artist decides it's time for a bit of Jackson Pollock! The sponges retain their 'spring' for quite a while, and they are excellent value for the amount of use you can get out of them.

One thing to be careful of is the rinsing. I find they do tend to retain quite a lot of the dirt and they stain very easily, so it's always worth rinsing them out very well. This is naturally true of all other scrubbing utensils to ensure standards of cleanliness are kept up, but even more so with these scrubbers.

Overall, they are a highly recommended product from the Tesco Value range and it's well worth having a supply of them to hand. At such a low price, it's worth it.
