Tesco Value Straws
Advantages: cheap, reasonably thick, good for craft activities
Disadvantages: no bendy bit, packaging
Tesco offer a basic range of products known as the Value range.
Straws are generally used to drink from cups or bottles of juice. They can also be used for various craft activities.
Tesco offer their own Value straws which are simply presented in a clear plastic bag. Inside the bag, the straws are white with coloured stripes - blue, yellow, red and green. The straws are basic and do not have the flexible extension that allows you to bend the top of the straw for easy drinking.
These straws are available in a pack of 50. They can be bought from www.tesco.com or instore (near the paper plates and cups). They are priced at 18p a pack. Tesco also offer a 225pk of coloured, flexible straws for £1.00.
I initially bought a pack of the Value straws back in May for my sons birthday. I didn't realise at the time that they didn't have the flexible part otherwise I would have opted for the more expensive straws.
The packaging is very basic and does not reseal. The straws look like regular straws and are a good length for extending into regular sized cans and cups. The choice of colours always causes issues I find as the children at my sons birthday were fighting over who wanted what colour. Luckily there seems to be an even amount of each colour inside the packet.
The straws aren't the thickest so if you want to suck up a thick milkshake, you will struggle. They are fine for regular diluting juice and fizzy juice and can also accommodate smoothies and milky drinks. These aren't easy for children to drink through in my opinion. Because they do not have the flexible bit to bend and hang over the edge of a cup or bottle, it is rather awkward for them to drink with ease.
These straws can be used for art activities. They are great for blowing wet paint in various directions on card and creating different pictures with minimal mess. They can be bended and the ends secured with sticky tape to create different characters. I have brought them out recently for my son and nephew to play with and with some help from myself and my sister, we have been making straw snowmen which look cool. They didn't last though and our creations quickly fell apart.
Overall these straws are convenient to have stored in the cupboard. They are "OK" for childrens parties though are easier to use by adults in my opinion. They are so cheap as you cannot get much for 18p these days though I would prefer the more expensive ones for drinking from to be honest so will only buy the Value straws for art activities from now on. They are a decent quality.
We still have lots left in our pack since buying them in May.
Thanks for reading x
Summary: 18p bargain!
