Advantages: Cheap, does a pretty good job

Disadvantages: Can leave residue on pan after use

For products such as toilet cleaner, I don't tend to pay the top- brand prices. Although I want to know that my toilet is 100% clean and free from germs after cleaning, I refuse to pay a few pounds on a product that I'm basically just going to throw down my toilet! So nowadays I tend to opt for the very economical Tesco Value Toilet Cleaner.

~The Product~
Tesco Value Toilet Cleaner can be found in a white plastic bottle bearing the Value logo and a couple of pine cones to indicate that the toilet cleaner has a 'Pine' fragrance to it. The liquid itself is what I would describe as a forest green colour and it surprised me at the thickness of the liquid. Considering this is the Value range, obviously you don't expect too much from it, but the consistency of this liquid was quite thick and not at all runny as I expected it to be. The colour was quite vibrant too, meaning the toilet cleaner didn't look like it had been watered down.

This toilet cleaner comes with a child-proof top. Its one of those tops where you have to press the two sides in together then twist the cap off at the same time. When the cap is removed you have a 'straw-like' dispenser from which you pour the liquid.

With other toilet cleaners you get a bent neck which means you can get right under the rim of the toilet pan easily as this is the place where the germs really build up. Unfortunately you don't get that with this toilet cleaner but as said previously, the neck on this is only the same size as a straw so with a bit of manoeuvring you can still get this cleaner in hard to reach places like under the rim.

~Price~
A 750ml bottle of Tesco Value Toilet Cleaner will set you back a mere 24p per bottle which I think is fantastic value for money for the quantity you receive.

~Results~
Does it do the job? Yes, it does and it does it well. You simply squirt the bottle around the pan and flush. You get a hint (though not a strong one!) of the pine fragrance as you flush and it did leave my pan looking clean and shiny. My only slight gripe with this cleaner is that some of the liquid didn't flush away from the pan too easily so I found myself having to brush it off the sides with a toilet brush even though I'd just flushed. I'm sure that after a couple of flushes these marks will disappear on their own, but for me I had to brush them away as in my opinion it did look a bit messy.

Overall result is that I will continue to use this toilet cleaner in future. It does a reasonable job and for the price you pay for a bottle, I don't think you can ask for much more. Obviously its not the most fantastic cleaner on the market, but give me my 24p bottle of cleaner any day!. Well worth a try if you're trying to save the pennies!

Summary: Not bad for the price
