Advantages: cheap, works
Disadvantages: none
I think that toilet rolls is a product where even the most ardent money savers falter for a moment or two. There's really too many reasons why this may be to point out a mere one; it may be because they believe it an example of false economy, it may be that we're all a tad wary of the quality that may result, or, er, perhaps we simply don't want to be seen putting it in our trolley. I'm reluctant to admit it, but I was probably the last; I only purchased a packet of Tesco Value Toilet Tissue when I commenced ordering online.
The packet sat for a few weeks, unopened and so unused. We continued instead to work our way through the usual toilet paper which I now see to be named 'Tesco Luxury'. A contrast indeed! Name alone would imply I were to be bitterly disappointed with what I had supposed a bargain. I had never considered my toilet paper to be of luxury, so what could be said for that which claimed itself mere value? I left it longer.
Finally, though, I decided to try it; after all, it would be even more of a waste for it to sit there unopened than it would be to try it and find it, well, unusable, as I was beginning to suspect from blanket statements online regarding own-brand value toilet tissue. I opened the packet which, as one would expect, is absolutely no fuss with only the decoration being that of text to affirm that it is indeed the toilet paper expected.
The rolls looked a tad small when they were compressed inside the packet, I think; and, actually, they do have a bit less in regards to sheets. Tesco Value Toilet Tissue has 200 sheets per roll which, it seems, is 40/41 less than the usual amount of Tesco rolls. Ah, 'the catch', you think! Perhaps it is, but more than likely not, as Tesco Value Toilet Tissue is a bare 0.05p per 100 sheets where others are 0.20p and up. The price, if nothing else, is certainly in this product's favour.
I suppose we were all aware of that fact, though, and so I shall move on to the actual quality of this product. I think my family were a tad false when they claimed they didn't notice the difference, but I have to say the difference isn't as large as one may initially expect. This toilet tissue isn't weak: it isn't one to become smitten with holes under minimum pressure; but neither is it harsh and uncomfortable in usage. I can't really make the purpose of this product glamorous, because it certainly isn't, but that's probably another point in this product's favour. There really is no reason to pay more.
In trying to find a fault with these rolls, the only thing I can think of is that they do look their price. They don't really feel or act cheap, no; but they look it. I can't see a reason why this matters, though, as I doubt many are eager to display the results, regardless of the base brand, around their home.
Or I hope not anyhow.
Summary: May as well.

- 09/07/08 I never would have thought of writing a review about bog-roll, but a very useful review. I could save a fortune if I change brand. |
