Tesco Value Toilet Tissue
Advantages: Cheap and soft
Disadvantages: Not very strong
I started buying Tesco value toilet tissue when I went on maternity leave and we had to adjust to being on a much lower income. I thought I'd try cheaper products in the hope that some would be good enough for me to continue buying. I had always bought Andrew toilet roll in the past so this was a big down shift for us and one my husband wasn't particularly keen on. We agreed to use this cheap one just in the downstairs toilet to start with to see how we got on.
Tesco have recently relaunched their value range as Everyday Value which has meant a changes other than just the improved packaging for this toilet tissue. It used to be available in a 12 pack but now you have the option of a 4 pack or double length 6 pack. I currently have a 4 pack which gives you an average of 200 sheets per roll and each sheet is 2 ply. The sheet size is 115mm x 96mm which is very small when compared to Andrex so you do end up using more. The sheets also feel thin to the touch which again makes you use an extra sheet or 2.
As expected with a value product these toilet rolls are just wrapped in a mainly clear plastic which is easy to tear open. It tells you basic information about the product and has the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) logo on it which guarantees that it comes from a well managed forest.
How soft is it?
I think this toilet tissue is pretty good when it comes to softness, it hasn't got that rough texture to it that you get from some cheap toilet roll which is a definite bonus as I don't think I would have carried on buying it if that had been the case.
Is it strong?
Not really, it starts to disintegrate when it gets wet so it needs to be used and quickly thrown away. The perforations are easily torn apart so no complaints in that area and it is fairly easy to start a new roll by just ripping above where the glue sticks the end down.
Price and Availability
These toilet rolls are available from Tesco stores and Tesco groceries online costing 70p for the 4 pack and £1.96 for the double length 6 pack. The previous 12 pack only used to cost approx £1.49 so not as much of a value product as it used to be!
Would I recommend?
At the previous price I would have recommended but I'll be on the look out for other cheap toilet rolls when I've finished this current pack. These toilet rolls just about do the job.
Summary: An okay value toilet roll
