Advantages: Much cheaper than branded buys, works just as well

Disadvantages: Cheap packaging but get rid and recycle

Kitchen towel seems to be a staple in our house and like everyone else we are looking to save a few pennies on the weekly shop. Having had a few successes with the Tesco's value range I decided to swap our usual buy with the value brand, just to see if we would notice the difference.

The kitchen towel comes in a double pack of 'jumbo' rolls which looked and felt quite thick, each roll should contain about 120 sheets of 2 ply towel which seems a fair amount. The packaging is the usual basic clear plastic wrapping with the value logo on but I don't really care as chuck the packaging away when I open it anyway, although interestingly the packaging is PE so can be recycled and the towel itself is made from mixed and well managed sources in association with the Forest Stewardship Council which goes someway to fulfilling my ethical concerns.

It is a nice white colour and the paper is quite thick, I find that it has a nice absorbency and mops up many spills with ease. It doesn't tear very easily and definitely doesn't look like a cheaper brand on your kitchen worktop. With it being quite a good thickness of paper I don't find I'm using any more that i would of any other brand or that I need to 'double up' and it seems to last a good amount of time before the roll needs replacing.

We use this for all sorts, from general kitchen and house hold use to my fella using for mopping up grease and oil from the bikes, it does a great job on most things. It's not very good for scrubbing off anything that has dried on surfaces but to be honest I use kitchen cloths or washing up scrubbers for that so I don't think there is any problem there for me anyway and at £1.12 a pack it's still good value in my books.

I have been somewhat put off value brand kitchen roll as I had a bad experience with one brand which when wet, smelled a little like fish glue which was very unpleasant. Needless to say this doesn't smell cheap and horrible either (I know it's a bit odd to be smelling kitchen roll).

I can definitely say that this has been a success for me and it has spurred me on to find more good 'value' alternatives out there.

Summary: Does the job!
