Advantages: Cheper than the big brands, smells great, cuts through grease well
Disadvantages: Can only buy this in Tesco
With the purse strings being a little tight at the moment I'm trying more and more cheaper alternatives to my usual brands in the hope of saving a few pennies during my regular shopping trips.
I usually buy fairy washing up liquid as I always thought that this brand represented good value for money, but on my last trip to Tesco I was on a limited cash budget and had to go for a cheaper alternative. I looked up and down the shelves and noticed that Tesco now do an own brand anti-bacterial range.
The Lime and Ginger liquid caught my eye with its nice bright green colour and it smelled really pleasant so I thought I'd give it a go. Now my normal brand of ant-bac Fairy liquid comes in at £1.40 for 450ml whereas this one was 86p for 500ml, which is not to be sniffed at.
The packaging is basic with the lid being a pull up to open sort which is just fine and the plastic bottle makes it easily squeezable. For those of you out there who are green conscious, the bottle is made of recyclable plastic which is good news (although I don't think the top is). On the back of the bottle it also tells you that the liquid hasn't been tested on animals.
Now the smell of this liquid is exactly what is says on the front, sort of a tangy lime which is lovely and fresh and the liquid itself is a nice light green colour.
The smell is nice and strong but not overpowering and I was really surprise by the amount of bubbles just one squirt produced. I didn't use that much but it filled the bowl with shiny white fluffy bubbles, I was impressed.
The next challenge was how well it would clean the set of cooking pots and pans from the night before and I have to say it did very well, the glass bowls came up shiny and clean and the pans needed very little scrubbing to come up like new. It did cut through the grease on the pans very well and left them clean and sparking.
Another thing I noticed is that it wasn't as drying on my hands as I was expecting, yes it's not as kind to your skin as fairy but it's not all that bad (I've definitely used worse). All in all I was really impressed with this little bottle and I'd definitely buy it again.
