I love The Body Shop and I love fruity smells. My daughter introduced me to some oils a few years ago and now I like to use them regularly.
I bought some from The Body Shop. The flavours I bought included cranberry and this passion fruit one. I find them to be absolutely lovely.
I tend to use oils to make my house smell nice. There are different ways in which you can use them. I have a little oil burner which I sometimes use. This consists of a little tea light that sits underneath a ceramic bowl which holds the oil. I mix water and oil into the little bowl and the heart of the candle gradually warms it up which makes the smell mix in the air. I also sometimes use it in other ways too- I put little bits behind the radiator so that when the heating comes on the scent spreads into the room! I have also put some in a pan of boiling water when I wanted to quickly make the house smell nice before we had people look round!
These oils are lovely. The bottle is only small but it lasts a long, long time. It comes out of a tiny little hole at the top so you only get a drop at a time, you have to shake it quite hard so there is no danger of you using too much.
The smell is of lovely passion fruit, it's a very fresh and fruity smell but isn't sickly. It will depend upon how much you use as to how strong it is, I find a couple of drops is enough to make it perfectly fine.
I really rate these and now wonder what I used to do before. It makes my house smell lovely in a very natural way rather than spraying aerosol and things.
The Body Shop Passion Fruit Home Fragrance Oil - Normally price at £4 each
This room fragrance oil from the Body Shop was priced at £2 in the sale when I bought it. I was lured in by the sale, and as I love to have these oils to fragrance my home with I thought I would try this one. In the store the fragrance seemed to be light and fruity, and was very true to the scent of passion fruits.
As with other oils they are to be used in oil burners in water that are lightly heated with a tea light under the well part of the burner. At first I thought the oil was taking a little longer than normal to saturate the air with it's scent. It turns out that it just doesn't as effective as many of the other oils in the range. It does have a wonderful smell to it, however it does seem to have a much more subtle smell than I am used to.
The oil burner in my small two bed terrace works well to circulate the sent through the whole house if I leave the doors open but when I use this oil the scent does not reach upstairs. It isn't that the scent isn't wonderful but I am glad that I bought it in the bargain bin at only £2 in the sale.
I would recommend the fragrance to others as it is nice and fruity however there are others that I prefer.
I bought this Oil only the other month when I was in my closest branch of The Body Shop in Dunfermline, which is the town that I work in as well. I had a voucher to use up where I got £10 off when I spent £25 so I stocked up on a few favourites and tried a few new ones. I like Fragrance Oils and Tarts.
This comes in a 10ml bottle and costs £3.50, so an average price.
The bottle looks alright. Just a small glass bottle which doesn't stand all that high either, but being that this is only 10ml then I wouldn't expect this to be that big anyway. The bottle has a wrap around label and there is a little slither so you can see how much of the Oil that you have used.
When I opened this bottle you get the pretty strong scent of the Passionfruit. You only need a few drops of this into a bowl of Water in your Oil Burner so it is quite economical and I guess that is why it is quite a strong scent. When you think about just dropping a few spots of this into a larger amount of Water then you wouldn't expect to be able to smell this, but it is surprising.
I could smell the scent for hours and I could even smell this faintly the next day in the room that I had this in. Since you use this in a Burner with a Tealight burning underneath then the Heat makes the scent come out.
The scent from this is just the kind of scent that I go for. It is a fresh and Fruity scent and has a nice tang to it. Once I have finished this bottle then I know I will buy this scent again.
I have a number of fragrance oils with different aromas that I principally use in my oil burner, although I do occasionally use them to freshen up pot pourri and even to pour on non-fragranced candles. I have a number of other fragrances from The Body Shop range, but actually The Body Shop Passion Fruit Home Fragrance Oil is my least favourite of this range and one that I haven't used more than a couple of times because I just don't like the fragrance very much at all.
In order to use, I mix 2 - 3 drops from the bottle with about 8 drops of base oil (which makes it last longer) and then put it in my oil burner. The fragrance is strong even before the oil is heated, but the fragrance is even stronger when it starts to become warm - and so it's at its strongest about 20 minutes after the heating has begun. Once the fragrance has been released, it seems to hang around for about an hour after the oil is no longer being heated - which is a lot better than some oils.
This particular fragrance is very very sweet and it really is far too sweet for my tastes. It does smell fruity and citrousy, but it also smells like over-ripened fruit when you start to get the smell that comes from fruit when it's at the stage between being very ripe and starting to decay. I simply wasn't a fan of the fragrance at all - and it just made me feel a heady and nauseous even.
All of The Body Shop Home Fragranced Oils in this range cost £3.50 for a 10ml bottle direct from The Body Shop which I actually think is a very good price and certainly less expensive that many of the fragranced oils that you can buy from other manufacturers. I particularly think this is a good range because of the number of fragrances that are available and how long the aroma lasts.
While I recommend this range of Home Oil Fragrances, I don't recommend this particular fragrance - just because it really isn't very nice. Any of the other fruity fragrances are much better!
The Body Shop Passion Fruit Home Fragrance Oil - 10ml bottle for £3.50.
I like the Body Shop and I have tried lots of different Body Shop products. I like the fact that the Body Shop does not test on animals and that they use minimum recycled packaging that can again be recycled after use.
The Body Shop has lots of High Street stores and all their products are also available to buy online.
I bought this Body Shop Passion Fruit Home Fragrance Oil some time ago from the Body Shop and I just discovered it by chance last week in my bathroom cabinet. I had forgotten all about buying this home fragrance oil and since my last bottle of Mango Home Fragrance oil had just ran out I was more than happy to find this Passion Fruit one lurking at the back of the cabinet! Money is tight at the moment and I have tried to stop buying any items that are not a necessity. Well that's what i've told my husband!
The Passion Fruit Oil looks quite pink in colour, almost the same colour as the actual seeds of a passion fruit. The oil is in a small plastic bottle which contains 10mls of the oil. The bottle the oil comes in can be recycled along with the lid of the oil bottle. The whole packaging of the Home Fragrance Oil has been well thought out, it is minimal and inexpensive, it can be recycled after use, this is fine as there is really nothing else you could use this bottle for - well done Body Shop!
When using this oil you don't need to place very much oil in your burner for this oil to work but like lots of other things in life quantity does matter and the more oil you place in the burner the greater the smell. It is important to remember to keep topping the water up in the burner so that the oil does not dry out and burn.
My first results using the Passion Fruit Oil were quite good, the whole house smelt very fruity with a very sweet smell of passion fruit with undertones of grapefruit. The smell is really a daytime smell. It really did not take much of the oil to produce an intense smell. With just a few drops of oil the whole room smelt of a really sweet fruity aroma. I was quite surprised at how little oil I actually needed to create this effect.
The passion fruit oil is great for daytime use but I would never use it at night. As I said before it is a very sweet fruity smell, a smell with lots of energy and not at all relaxing. Nice to use to make a room smell fresh but not relaxing enought for a night in with a takeaway, dvd and glass or two of wine. For this I would be looking for a more musky, sultry scent that is both comforting and relaxing.
The important thing to remember with this product is that under your oil burner is a burning tealight and the oil and water in the top heats up to expel the fragrance. This should be kept well away from children at all times and extinguished when you go to bed or leave the house.
Notes of fresh passion fruit, orange zest and grapefruit - these combine to create the fruity and zesty top notes which awaken and stimulate the senses. Notes of lime and Babassu oil - these combine to create the fruity base notes which tend to linger for longer than the other notes. The Babassu Oil helps create the intense fruity scent of the oil.
Use with any Oil Burner. Half fill the well with water and add a few drops of Home Fragrance Oil. Place a tea light in the opening on the base and light. Do not leave the tea light alight for more than 20 minutes. Never mix oils. Fragrance combinations can be achieved using a split dish oil burners. Ensure that the well does not dry out.
The Body Shop have a range of home fragrance oils in different scents that can be used in oil burners to fill your home with a delicious scent. This one is Passionfruit scent and is so fruity and fresh you won't be able to resist. It is great for creating a sensual or romantic mood.
A 10ml glass bottle costs £3.50 but you can get 10% off with a Love your Body Card (please view my review for full details). It has a screw top which is easy to use and it pors slowly so you don't waste or spill any. Both parts of the bottle can be recycled.
How and where to use
I use a traditional oil burner (The Droplet burner by The Body Shop which I also reviewed). I fill the water compartment in my oil burner then add 12 drops of oil. I have a large open plan Terraced property but I would recommend 5 drops for a smaller room, but you can trial this out so you know you get the desired effect. You light the candle and leave, supervised. Never leave the candle lit or near children or pets which could knock it over.
What is the effect
The room will filled with the fruity sweet scent of Passionfruit. The scent lingers a long time and really puts a smile on my face when I smell it. This scent suits bedrooms perfectly or any room where you want to create a romantic mood. Lavander is great for the bedroom too as it relaxes.
I love this product. It is a good price and lasts months. It saves me from buying expensive candles that don't really have a scent. It is easy to fill the whole room with a great scent, this one in particular smells fruity and sensual and very much like their ripe Passionfruit range of bath and shower products. This is soon to be discontinued so I would stock up in advance.
