      Nice as a gift

I wouldn't normally buy a scented candle but this came as a gift so I thought I would try it out. It is attractively packaged, and comes in a small square box. Inside is a glass ball containing the candle itself. It lights easily - though the wick was a bit too long really and it would have been better if I'd trimmed it first - and the scent comes off the candle straightaway. It is quite a strong smell, not overpowering, but not all that subtle either. The ginger is there more in the background, with the sandalwood (I assume - I don't really know what that ought to smell like!) being more noticeable. It makes the room smell quite fresh and pleasant; one friend described it as calming, though I can't say I noticed any effect on the kids! Once the candle is blown out the smell doesn't last all that long, this may be because our house is quiet draughty. I used it over the course of a few weeks, not every day but every few days for an hour or two, so it lasted reasonably well. However, there was quite a bit of unburnt wax left at the sides which seems a waste. I've rescued this and put it into old tealight holders for re-use, but it's a shame that it hasn't been better designed to use it all properly. The container is potentially useful for storing beads or something like that, and the glass feels quite thick and strong, so needn't be thrown away when the candle is finished. This is probably not something I would buy regularly (I'm guessing they are quite expensive, but have resisted looking it up to preserve the secrecy of the gift), but it was nice to get one as a present.
