Advantages: Lovely long-lasting fragrance. Quality product.
Disadvantages: None
I love to fragrance my home with scented candles or home fragrance oil and therefore I was delighted to receive an oil burner and some home fragrance oils from The Body Shop last Christmas.
Since receiving my gift I have been steadily working my way through the oils with mixed views on the different fragrances.
Sandalwood & Ginger was probably not an oil I would have personally chosen based on the name alone, as I am not a big fan of fragrances containing ginger as a rule, despite my love of woody and spicy fragrances. However, when I removed the top from the bottle to smell the fragrance I was pleasantly surprised by this fragrance which indeed is woody and spicy, but there is not a big scent of ginger here. Instead there is a lovely mellow woody fragrance with just the right amount of spice to keep it subtle.
The fragranced oil comes in a 10ml bottle which costs £3.50 from The Body Shop, both in stores and online at www.thebodyshop.co.uk.
Now £3.50 may seem a lot to pay for a small bottle of fragranced oil, particularly when it is possible to pick up bottles of fragranced oil at a much cheaper price if you shop around. However, I don't mind paying £3.50 for a fragrance I really like, but of course it is all down to how well it performs too. If the fragrance the oil gives off is weak when you are actually using it in an oil burner, then no matter how nice it smells on opening the bottle, I would not be able to justify paying £3.50 for it.
After lighting a tealight and placing it underneath the well of the oil burner, I then fill the well with water and add 3 drops of this Sandalwood & Ginger fragrance oil. After a few minutes I can begin to detect the fragrance in the room.
The key ingredients of this oil are Juniper oil, Ginger oil, Vanilla extract and Community Fair Trade soya oil and I would describe it as a very woody fragrance with a hint of spice and vanilla, perfect for autumn and winter evenings and of course to use over the festive period.
The Community Fair Trade soya oil comes from organic, non-GM soya beans, grown in southern Brazil using traditional farming methods free of harmful pesticides and fertilisers. The beans are hand-harvested and pressed to extract the oil.
The fragrance isn't too heavy but will fill your room with its woody scent. You must keep an eye on the well of the burner and ensure it does not dry out. I top the water up when needed and add another drop of oil when the fragrance begins to disappear.
You can use these oils with any oil burner but you shouldn't mix the oils. Fragrance combinations can be achieved by using split dish oil burners if this is what you'd like to do.
Overall I am happy to recommend this Sandalwood & Ginger home fragrance oil from The Body Shop. In terms of the fragrance and how long it lasts, it represents good value for money and is a good quality product, just as you would expect from The Body Shop.
As you only need to use a few drops, the bottle does last a long time. I have tried a few of these fragranced oils and I can honestly say this is one of the best I have ever used. It is also superior to many of the other Body Shop's home fragranced oils in my opinion.
Perfect for the fast-approaching festive period!
Summary: One of my favourite home fragrance oils.
