Advantages: Effective, efficient and hygienic
Disadvantages: more expensive than liquid cleaner
Now I do like to have a nice clean toilet, but I'm not that keen on cleaning, so anything to make my life a bit easier is very welcome in my cleaning cupboard!
Having been using an own brand toilet cleaner for a while, and finding that it didn't clean the toilet very well and certainly didn't remove/prevent limescale when I saw the Toilet Duck fresh brush I though I'd give it a go. Especially as I also hate that bacteria laden toilet brush festering behind the toilet, I hoped that this product would do a good job.
I purchased a starter kit, which is the bottom packet in the picture above which is priced at £3.84 currently at Tesco. The kit contains the handle, a holder and a pack of 4 of the disposable cleaning pads.
The handle part is white plastic made up of two parts that slot together easily. In the middle of the handle is the button to fix/release the cleaning pad. It is shaped to aid cleaning under the rim and is also long so cleaning right down to the bend is easy too.
The cleaning pads are white with a blue stripe of toilet duck liquid which is activated when wet in the toilet. Once dipped in the water of the toilet the liquid is released allowing you to clean your toilet bowl. The pads are biodegradable which break down like toilet paper so are safe to be flushed.
When finished you push down the button on the handle and release the pad into the toilet then flush it away! You then rest the handle part into the holder, which you can store very discretely next to your toilet.
I was very impressed with how well this cleaned my toilet, as I did have a bit of limescale build up due to poor performance of previous toilet cleaner, but I was left with a sparkling white toilet again after using the fresh brush. It was a little awkward trying to move the pad under the rim at first but once you've done it a couple of times it's very easy to use. And much more hygienic than a regular toilet brush as you can flush the pad away. The smell was pleasant, not too strong but reassurigly fresh and clean!
Packs of 12 pad refills are available and are currently priced at £2.80 in Tesco.
Summary: Worth the cost for clean and hygienic toilet cleaning
