Advantages: Good quantity of hot water - good service
Disadvantages: One did break
I have had a Triton Opal for a year and a half now, and it has been superb. Lovley hot, powerful, showers (probably due to the fact that it is 9.5kW - don't go for anything lower if you have the wiring in place for this). It has an economy mode which uses half the power, but obviously you get less water out for the same temperature as on full power. This has only been useful in the height of summer when the cold water has been warm and I wanted a cooler shower anyway. The shower was relativly easy to fit. If you already have a shower it is a simple case of putting the pipe on to the unit with a nut and olive and putting the wires in. The pipe can come from behind or below, and the electricity can come from behind or above. The unit is easy to fix to the wall, as is the shower head and rail. The unit is slimline, which is nice in the bathroom because it takes up less space, but it is not any harder to install. Last week tradgedy struck and the shower stopped working. I called up Triton and they said that an engineer could not come round for 7 days. I was a bit annoyed, but didn't really have a choice. They couldn't say what time he would come, but he could call half an hour before he turned up. Sure enough, he called at 8.30 am, and turned up half an hour later - I consider this to be very good these days. Few companies ever manage to keep their apointments with me. It turned out that the circuit board had blown, so the engineer gave us a new, upgraded shower instead, all fitted under the 2 year guarantee. The shower that we got instead is a Topaz T100i. The only difference between this and our old shower is that there is a digital display of the heat setting. I do not see this as any advantage whatsoever. The numbers are not a temperature setting, just a measure of how far round the dial is! I can look at a dial an see where it is, I do not need a set of electronic numbers to look at. I wouldn't reccomend paying extra just
for that. The dial is also slightly stiffer to turn because it is a geared mechanism rather than a direct control, but that may wear in. Other than that, it still gives a great shower, lots of hot water instantly on demand, and easy to control. It has good hidden features too like temperature stability in case someone else turns the cold water on, a saftey check every time it is powered up, and an indicator that it is time to clean the shower head.Over all I am very pleased both with the shower and the after sales service.
