Advantages: Ok at direct stain removal
Disadvantages: one scoop in the wash DOES NOT WORK
I am compelled to write a review about vanish because I am so sick of buying the stuff and it not working.
You can mix it with water to create a paste and pop it on specific stains and it will almost do what it states it'll do in the advert, it will dissolve the stain. It isn't quite as effective as the marketing guys at Vanish would have you believe but hey, everyone exaggerates about how great their product is so I will let them off this one. It works ok so I would give it 4 stars.
However, if like me you do not have the time or inclination to scrutinise every single piece of laundry for stains to apply this paste to, you may have fallen for the advertising campaign that suggests just adding a scoop to your ordinary wash will remove stains. This is absolute nonsense. Does not work. Official. Have tried this on numerous occasions. My mucky pup husband had a pale stain (really was not that bad) on the front of his beige top so I just washed it, with ordinary detergent and a scoop of vanish and although the top is nice and clean, the stain is still there - untouched. What is the point in them lying about their product? Surely if they just stuck to saying it works if you make up a paste, people would use it in that way. So, on 'one scoop to your wash for stain removal' nonsense they get no stars. NONE!
And to end on a positive note because it is Sunday, I can hear the hymns from the church over the road and I am feeling magnanimous... in terms of just sprucing things up a bit, it works pretty well. On those grimy marks you get on the inside of collars that build up over time until even when you've just taken them out of the wash, they look like a minor's been wearing them down the pit, if you add a scoop of vanish to the wash it does seem to get them out, so on this they score 4 stars.
So overall, good for direct stain removal but needs to be used as a paste.
Ok. Probably not worth the money!
Summary: ok.
