Advantages: Gets rid of some stains that washing tablets can't
Disadvantages: Even this product struggled with some more stubborn stains
I have two members of my family who as mechanics, work with grease and oil on a daily basis. Sometimes their work clothes can need a bit more than just the usual washing tablets in order to rid them of the above stubborn stains. I am quite a fan of the Vanish range of products and had recommended to me their Vanish Stain Stick, so thought id give it a go on the family work clothes to see if it made any difference.
~The Product~
The stick is designed to aid washing tablets in getting rid of some stains that just normal washing tablets cannot always remove completely. Its quick, easy and convenient. You simply place the item of clothing on a work surface and wet it with cold water. Then rub the stick over the stain a few times, covering it completely and then wash in your washing machine as you would normally.
The stick itself is white with an almost waxy kind of feel to it. The stick is about 1.5" wide so can cover quite a large stain very easily. The stick rubs onto the stain. The stick is very hard-wearing and doesn't crumble away upon impact of the stain, even though I tend to use some force behind the stick to ensure maximum coverage.
To use you simply remove the large plastic lid and twist the wheel on the bottom of the stick to bring the stick out of the packaging. When you have finished you simply wind the wheel to bring the stick back down again and replace the lid. It is a similar motion to that of some of the powder like deodrants on the market.
~Price/Packaging~
From Tescos supermarkets, at present this stick costs just £1.78 for a 75g stick. This may seem expensive to some but I have had my stick now for over a year now and its used pretty regularly. There is also still quite a bit of life left in my stick, so i'd estimate that it will last around 18 months, so for me its actually very good value for money.
Anyone who has brought a product from the Vanish range before will know their vibrant packaging is very distinctive from any other product. I can only describe the packaging colour as 'hot pink' with the blue and white vanish logo swooped across the front. If you look for Vanish products on the shelves, I can assure you that you really can't miss them!!!
~Does it work?~
For me, yes it does actually. There was a definite improvement on the grease and oil stains of old. I won't say that it completely removed every stain in my wash as it didn't. However, some smaller stains that I have had trouble removing in the past did disappear completely and other tougher, larger stains that didn't budge at all in a normal wash had a definite, quite large improvement to them so I have continued to use this product and will continue to do so in the future.
For the price its definitely worth keeping in your cupboards for those emergencys that pop up now and again. The sooner you can get to the stain, the more likely you are to get rid of it with Vanish Stick.
~Misc Info~
If you would like more information on the Vanish Stick then you can contact the manufacturer Reckitt Benckiser on 0845 769 7079 or look on the website WWW.RBEURAINFO.COM. This stick contains no bleach or abrasives and contains more than 30% soap. #
~Summary~
All in all, anything that makes my life easier when it comes to laundry is a winner in my book and this stick at times has been a great help to me. I actually have a date with my Vanish stick this morning and my partners jeans (he sat in some chewing gum in the pub last week - nice!!!), so i'm hoping my loyal stick can come up trumps again today!! Toodle pip!
Summary: Watch your stains disappear!!

- 19/09/09 I must try this one. I bought the spray one, but I was not impressed. I always find the sticks and soap bars rub into stains better so I will try this instead. Great info : ) |
