Advantages: Works Really Well, Easy To Use, Works On Tough Stains, Attractive Bottle & Smell
Disadvantages: More Expensive Than Other Stain Removers
Vanish is an excellent product, which can be used to successfully get rid of tough stains before washing your clothes. If you accidentally get blood, pen or other tough stains on your clothes, you can use Vanish before washing them and you can almost be guaranteed that your clothes will come out spotless. It is only a pre-wash spray so shouldn't be added to the washing machine directly. It helps by breaking down the stains first so they can be washed away.
Bloodstains, which contain protein consisting of amino acids will be broken apart by the chemicals within Vanish. The soluble amino acid products will then be washed away. This product should be applied as soon as possible after you spot a mysterious stain. This way, it can get to work before the stain has dried onto the clothes and will be tough to get off. You may be thinking 'why use this when washing detergents do the job themselves?' Well, Vanish actually helps to get rid of tougher stains that ordinary wash detergents would not get rid of. Vanish penetrates deep into the very fibres of your clothes to break down the toughest stains as well as collar and cuff grime and grease.
The product comes in a bright pink bottle, which is really attractive. The large Vanish logo is on the front label in bold blue letters and it says 'pre-treat, apply direct to stain'. The bottle has a white top with a pink nozzle and trigger. It has a simple On/Off mechanism on the nozzle to stop it from leaking when not in use. The shape of the bottle with a few ridges makes it easy to handle and use.
So what sort of stains can this be used on? As I have already mentioned, bloodstains from sudden nose bleeds or even fights can be combated by Vanish. It also rids any tough dirt stains after a game of football. Stains from washable ink may be tricky to get out in an ordinary wash, so this is where Vanish comes in handy.
The actual solution is white and has a translucent appearance. It's quite a thick liquid and has a pleasant smell too. It smells of floral perfume so is really nice to use compared to some other cleaning products. If you get it on your hands, the aroma will be very strong and stay there unless you wash it off well. It should be used right away to stop the stain settling and some stains may require more than one pre-wash. You are supposed to apply the Vanish to both sides of the stain - inside and outside the clothing to ensure it's disappearance. You are warned not to treat bright colours for more than 5 minutes before washing, as it will damage the clothes. It should not be used on silk and other delicate clothing, as its power will once again damage the clothes.
You should give the bottle a good shake before using it and leave the clothes for a few minutes. After this, you put them straight in the wash and continue as normal with washing detergents and perhaps a clothes freshener too. It works really well and you will be surprised when the stains have disappeared after the wash - some begin to vanish once the solution is applied before the wash. You don't need to scrub it in when it's applied, but you may want to, as it will start scrubbing away the stain. At around £1.89 and widely available in supermarkets, I would recommend giving this product a go. It's a useful tool to have in your cleaning product cupboard, as you never know when you may need to use it!
