Use your plumbob to make sure it is straight and work away from the window. that way if your joins are not perfect they won't show too much. Between pasting each length, have a damp cloth to wipe your table so you don't get paste on the patterned side, if you do, wipe it off immediately. As a beginner stay away from stripes, they can be a nightmare as I found out with my first attempts many years ago. Vertical became almost horizontal with each le...more

Premium Review Wallpaper Hanging: Making life easier. (406 words)

Not a lot of people enjoy decorating, it can be quite a chore, but a newly decorated room can also be very rewarding, even if it’s not perfectly done you will still have the satisfaction of knowing that you did it, although it doesn’t have to be that hard. Firstly survey your walls, if they are already wallpapered it will obviously need to come down; this itself is a horrible mucky job. TIP 1 Use a steamer, this is much quicker, easier and less messy. If you don’t own one or know anyone who will lend one out, they are available to rent and they are a lot cheaper than you’d expect. If none of these are an option, ...  Read the complete review

Wallpapering can be Hell for a beginner, but we have all been beginners. First don't panic. Make sure you have a good sturdy pasting table. Gather together everything you are going to need, it helps to have a decorators apron with a deep pocket in which to keep immediate tools to hand, no more balancing on a stepladder feeling around for the scissors or plumbob. your bucket of paste and a good pasting brush on one end of your table and you are ready. your first length of paper is the most important. get that right and the rest will follow. Premium Review Wallpaper Hanging: Try it yourself! (250 words)

Don't be scared about trying your arm at painting and hanging wall paper. Rather than immediately calling a professional in, try it yourself. Neither I nor my partner had ever hung a piece of wall paper before and we tried it on one of our rooms last week. I scoured the internet for some tips of how to hang wallpaper (there are hundreds of sites) and actually printed off a small instruction manual. Then we bought good paper to hide all the bumps in the walls, and we made sure we could return any un-open rolls. We read the instructions on the wall paper about how long the paste needed to soak for, read the internet guide for advice ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Wallpapering hell? (210 words)

I have just wallpapered my boyfriend’s room and I must admit it is hard work. Unless you are really up for it, I suggest waiting for a time when you are really relaxed, as I found it rather stressing. First, if there is paper on the walls already, it must come off! We used a sponge, and scraped it all off. Don’t do what the previous paperers did and overlap the paper, as it peels off and goes horrible. Second, fill in cracks and holes in the wall. Wait till dry and sand down. Size the walls, this can be done with SIZE, a product made for making wallpapering easier, or with normal paste. Allow wall to dry. Measure first ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Wallpaper Hanging: Well, I could just tear the paper up without messing around ... (185 words)

Aaaaauuurrrgghhh!!!!!! We spent nearly three hours trying to put some lovely paper on the wall and ended up with just one small sheet above a window that we're happy with.... we just couldn't get the second sheet right! First lesson learned, keep the Stanley knife away. Second lesson, ignore what it says on the packaging of the rotary knife B&Q will sell you - I guess scissors are the only way to go, but it needs to be exact otherwise you get millimetre gaps of wall showing at the edges, very untidy. I am so looking forward to having the room complete but find myself considering paying someone professional to do it rather than waste ...  Read the complete review
