Genetically I should be mechanically minded. My father was a brilliant car mechanic and my sister is amazing. Dorothy is tall, elegant and posh. Everything has to be just so, and her speech doesn't relax into the popular idiom as mine does from time to time. Yet give her a ball of string and a screwdriver and she will keep many things going until an expert is reached - and without breaking an immaculately polished fingernail or getting oil on a silk blouse as she does it. I am the exception and just drift through life thinking nice thoughts and generally doing things my way, although I do manage fairly well. With posidrive and flat screwdrivers, a ... This summer I took my children for a week’s holiday in Dorset, not far from the Devon border. We were lucky with the weather and spent much of our time on the beach. It was a totally relaxing holiday only slightly marred by the oil washed up onto the beach from the cargo ship Napoli which was beached off Branscombe on the Devon coast in January 2007. Despite my nagging to avoid the tar we still managed to get our trainers, legs, towels and various other items of clothing/ bodily places spotted with oil. Off I went into the local village hardware store for some help. “Do you have anything to…” I started to ask. No need to finish the sentence. “Get tar ... Read the complete review

I really don't know what we'd do without WD 40 - it's such a useful product to turn to as it can be used for a multitude of purposes. The last time I bought a can it cost £2.50 from our local DIY store for 150 ml but I'm sure it would be cheaper at superstores. We use it for squeaky doors & for loosening rusty locks & other mechanisms such as bolts & old screws etc. Whilst I have, in the past, used in on my trusty sewing machine to remove an old needle, unstuck vacuum cleaner (chrome) lengths, hubby has often used it when cleaning the car or fixing appliances at work but apparently there are 'over 2000 uses' & WD 40 have provided us with a ... From the smell to the actual effectiveness of this essential 'tool', this is one that I make sure I have never run out of. With 5 functions it cleans, protects, penetrates, lubricates and displaces moisture. At the moment I have been using the penetrating function as I'm trying to remove my toilet seat (having just moved into my first home, the idea of using someone else's seat was beginning to get on my nerves). A few squirts of this precious liquid loosens rust-to-metal bonds, so I'm hoping that when I get back up there, the screws magically open. The can I have has 250ml of this distinctive aromatic versatile formula.Wd-40 has been on the market for ... Read the complete review

WD40 is one of those brands that I've always known of . However, as far as I knew until recently, it was only for lubricating squeeky hinges . I happened to have a canister under my stairs that I used for just that reason - I had a couple of squeaky door hinges when I moved in, sprayed them with WD40, and they stopped squeaking right away . However, I never knew it could be used for anything else, to the can just sat there,. gathering dust . In recent months I've developed a bit of an obsession with watching 'How clean is your house ' a series in which two women go into some utterly appalling homes, and clean them using a whole variety of bizarre ...
