WD40 is one of those brands that I've always known of . However, as far as I knew until recently, it was only for lubricating squeeky hinges .

I happened to have a canister under my stairs that I used for just that reason - I had a couple of squeaky door hinges when I moved in, sprayed them with WD40, and they stopped squeaking right away . However, I never knew it could be used for anything else, to the can just sat there,. gathering dust .

In recent months I've developed a bit of an obsession with watching 'How clean is your house ' a series in which two women go into some utterly appalling homes, and clean them using a whole variety of bizarre methods. Some of which included WD40 - and inspired me to have a bit of a go .

One of the uses that particularly impressed me was removing stickers from flat surfaces . Probably anyone with a child knows that if you giev a young child stickers, they will end up where you don't want them - in my case, my daughter decided it might be nice to decorate my TV . I disagreed . I sprayed a generous dose of WD40 onto my tv, left it a few minutes, and then scraped the stickers off with a knife!

Its also great to spray onto your bathroom mirrors -not only does it shine them up nicely, but because it repels water, it also stops them fogging up when you're having a hot steamy bath . Also in the bathroom, it helps clear up soap scum from soap trays, and a little sprayed on a disposable razor blade makes it last longer .

The best thing it's done for me though, is removing crayon and biro marks from my leather sofa - something that had started to look a bit shabby due to my daughters artistic imagination. Stains that had been there for a year or more were easily shifted with a generous squirt of WD40 and a dustcloth .

WD40 comes in a blue and yellow can with a red childproof cap . Its available in most hardware shops and supermarkets, and usually costs around £2.20 . Its really a little godsend .

The company has a website at http://www.wd40.co.uk/ which has some useful tips, and is well worth a look . Overall, its a great product now that I've discovered more uses for it, and I definitely recommend it .

I agree, this is a wonderful product with so many uses other than the usual of fixing squeaky old door hinges and the like!

Just used it yesterday to free up the lock on our shed. Super tip on the mirror - must try that! Brilliant stuff and a nicely written review 8^)
