Advantages: quick & easy to use, not too whiffy, a great de-ruster & lubricant

Disadvantages: none for us

I really don't know what we'd do without WD 40 - it's such a useful product to turn to as it can be used for a multitude of purposes.

The last time I bought a can it cost £2.50 from our local DIY store for 150 ml but I'm sure it would be cheaper at superstores. We use it for squeaky doors & for loosening rusty locks & other mechanisms such as bolts & old screws etc. Whilst I have, in the past, used in on my trusty sewing machine to remove an old needle, unstuck vacuum cleaner (chrome) lengths, hubby has often used it when cleaning the car or fixing appliances at work but apparently there are 'over 2000 uses' & WD 40 have provided us with a website to see just how invaluable it can be - www.wd40.co.uk.

When my daughters were young I grabbed the WD40 for squeaking pram & pushchair wheels, then as they grew it came in so handy for dealing with squeaky cart/trike wheels & handlebars, bike bells etc. Now I use it on garden tools & basically anything that needs lubricating around the home or outdoors & I'm thinking about buying some to give to our neighbours for their creaky iron gates!

I've also used it as a cleaner to remove rust & have just sorted out a bath tap that was stuck due to a build-up of grease - nothing else seemed to shift it.

It comes in a can as shown & when you pull off the red plastic top there's a good-sized & well-designed spray which allows you to use a little at a time & is much more convenient than the traditional pouring one as there's very little (if any) mess.

It doesn't smell too strong but is difficult to describe - it reminds me of wooden garden sheds with a slight undertone of meths/turps & petroleum - yet very comforting in a strange way - a distinct WD40 smell which takes me straight back to childhood & the days of 'mend & fix'.

There little residue after spraying despite this being a fairly oily spray as it somehow seeps into the areas needed to be fixed. All you need to do after tackling the problem area is to wipe over thoroughly with a cloth & the smell soon disappears.

All the directions, ingredients & cautions & suggested uses are marked clearly on the can both in print & in diagrams & it states the product is silicone-free.

I think it's worth every penny & would recommend everyone giving it a try as you never know when it'll come in handy?

Summary: wouldn't be without this handy can
