I first discovered these weeping rose candles a few years ago when I was browsing the internet for scary items to embellish our home with for a social gathering at Halloween. My partner and I had enthusiastically agreed to host a ghoulish gothic get together with some friends and wanted to treat our guests to a super spooky All Hallows' Eve. I saw these candles on Ebay and thought they would make a great centerpiece for the table displayed upon a gothic style candle holder I already owned. A few clicks later I had completed my online order.
When the candles arrived they were packaged in a simple clear box with a sticker on the front that says 'Weeping Rose Candles' and a sticker on the rear with the usual warnings you get on any candle packaging. The box contains four tapered candles that are each approximately 25cm in height and the base has a diameter of about 2cm.
They look like fairly ordinary slim tapered candles and are jet black in colour. However, when the candles are lit and the wax begins to melt it reveals that the center is a deep red. As the candles continue to burn wax drips down the sides. Gradually multiple layers of melted wax accumulates. Each candle ends up looking quite unique. I would just like to point out now that I believe the picture of this product above does not really do it justice. I had read online that the candle would create a 'dripping blood' effect which sounds a little ominous but I concluded it would fit in well with the Halloween theme. Thankfully I have to admit that it did not resemble dripping blood at all really. To begin with when the wax melted the two different colours simply combined together and the end result was black drips that have a subtle red tint. But when the candle burns down a little more, there is the occasional blood red drip of wax. They were perfect for our Halloween themed night. They created quite a dramatic effect in our spooky atmosphere.
Of course you do not have to wait for an occasion such as Halloween to burn the weeping rose candles. Since then I have purchased more of the tapered candles as I really like them. I do tend to burn Yankee candles more frequently though. One of the reasons being that these weeping candles burn quite rapidly, so do not last quite as long. Also I do like a good scented candle and the weeping rose candles are fragrance free. I use them basically because I find that they are aesthetically pleasing and a little unusual.
These candles are also available in other sizes. Unfortunately it can be difficult to obtain any of them at times... almost as rare as finding an ice-cube in the Sahara! They can be found on various websites but personally I do not like purchasing from sites I am too unfamiliar with. Call me paranoid but I have previously been the victim of identity theft so I am extra cautious about where I type in my details. Though as long as you check the websites security and see the padlock safety sign on the payment page there should not be a problem... Hopefully.
i am in love with candles and every chance i get i have to light one or two. i love the way that you can set really lovely and calming atmospheres with them. i must have every shape, size and colour under the sun.
i praticulary love rose weeping candles. they come in three different sizes from a small round one, i big round one and some long thin ones. and i have them all.
i first came across these when i went away to whitby for a lovely weekend with my boyfriend. i picked one of these candles up and i wasn't sure what it actually did. that night when i got back home i lit my weeping rose candle and i just thought it was a black candle. after about half and hour - 45 minutes, i started seeing a vibrant red colour weeping from the candle. hence the name weeping rose candle. and i just watched the red just run down the side of the candle like tear drops for about 15 minutes. i couldn't take my eyes if it. i have never known a candle like it. these candles have a slight rose scent to them.
i did find that you will need quite a big candle holder dish as there is a lot of wax on these candles and if the dish isn't big enough then i will spill over the edge. and know one wants candle wax on there carpet.
i recently purchased the long thin candles from skegness on a outing. i found them in one of those tat shops. the big round candle cost me £3.99 and the long thin candles cost me £2.99. the thin candles come in a pack of 4.
I love candles and have tons of holders scattered around my house so I can create the perfect romantic or haunting lighting effects. I first found out about Weeping Rose candles when I saw one at a friends house in a particularly mangled and twisted shape. I thought they looked spectacularly cool and managed to source some from a local home wares shop in town. The ones I use are the dinner candle sticks and a pack of four cost me just £1. They can be a bit difficult to source on the high street but there are plenty of online retailers selling this style of candle. Expect to pay more for the church candle and multi wick candle.
Weeping Rose candles are a dark and gothic looking home accessory. They are creepy in a pretty sort of way and are my favourite candles for appearance. Weeping Rose is the name for the type of candle, not the brand itself. A Weeping Rose candle will have a black wax exterior, with a red coloured wax centre. As the candle burns the black outer casing will melt more slowly and forms a sort of harder shell around the red wax in the middle. The red wax melts quickly and spills out over the black wax causing it to appear as though it is 'bleeding'. This is a very cool effect and every candle burns in a different way so they all form their own unique wax runs, drips and puddles. The candles become deformed and take on an altogether different appearance than the sleek black candle that it appeared to be before it was lit!
My favourite way to display these candles is in old empty alcohol bottles. I simply stick the base of the candle into the neck of the bottle and hey presto, a cheap and effective way of displaying a beautiful candle. This not only looks quirky and unique, but there is a practical purpose as well. As the candles melt down they become very, very messy. If you are not careful the drips of wax will splash down and can pool onto the surface where the candle is set, and it can ruin nice expensive candle stick holders when you have to chip it off and clean them afterwards.
Due to the nature of the wax melting quickly to produce the interesting visual effect, the candles also tend to burn out quite quickly. You will get up to around 8-10 hours use out of them, but they are best used for special occasions, dinner parties or themed events where they will make a statement and provide a wonderful atmosphere that people will enjoy and talk about. I get a lot of compliments on my candles! The only thing I think these candles are really lacking is a scent, there is no fragrance released at all while these are burning. I guess that makes them practical and you could have an oil burner going to make up for the lack of fragrance.
Candle light is extremely flattering and can be used to provide many different atmospheres around your home, from romantic to calming to eerie to traditional. Weeping Rose candles are a fabulously stylish item that create an interesting look and would also be well suited as a gift to anyone who's into the rock and roll, gothic, rock, or metal scenes. I would definitely recommend these candles as a good buy and will continue to re-stock mine.
