Yankee Candle Almond Cookie Sampler
I have been interested in yankee candles for a while and a couple of weeks ago I bought a few samplers to try, including this one and also the winter wonderland sampler, previously reviewed.
- About the product and a description
I bought this candle in the form of a sampler, I bought it as a sampler because I can then try a few different scents without spending a lot and also as I didn't know which scents I liked. The sampler is made with pure, natural almond extract. Yankee candle description: "Still warm from the oven rich almonds and buttery vanilla baked in an irresistibly luscious treat"
- The packaging
The sampler comes wrapped in thin clear plastic and there is a image on the front of each sampler which visually describes the scent of the candle and in this case the image on the front of the wrapping is a basket of fully, toasted looking cakes or biscuits. The images does not look like cookies or almonds to me at all, so the image on this sampler is a bit out of place in my opinion but it still makes the candle look cute and well presented and for this reason I think that these samplers would make really nice mini presents.
- Appearance and Scent
The sampler are not very small but they are small candles in comparison to the jars and tumblers. This candle is a creamy beige colour, which is the same as the image on the wrapping. The scent of the candle in the wrapping is not very strong and it does not smell very strongly of almonds to me. The scent without being burned smells quite sweet, like a cookie dough or freshly backed biscuits but unlike the other samplers I have this one does not smell very strong in its wrapping.
- How to use the sampler
The sampler candles are really easy to use, you just have to unwrap the candle and then I cut some of the wick off as the wick was quite long but if it is not long you do not have to cut it. I think the best wick length is supposed to be 0.5cm or so. I then straightened the wick and lit it using normal cooking matches - obviously caution must be taken when using matches and candles. I have received my glass sampler holder from yankee doodle (link at the end of the review) and it is not very big but it fits the samplers in really well - and also quite securely. Once lit I keep the sampler in its holder and I place it on the window sill, with the blind rolled up and away from everything else.
- Using the sampler - scent dispersion and burn time
The sampler is easy to use and it does look quite nice while it burns in my new sampler holder. I love candles as they create a really nice warm, cosy, christmasy atmosphere, for me anyway. I use this candle in the study/office, in my bedroom and also in the living room and I find that with this candle the scent does disperse really well, although as the scent is not really strong then it is not as noticeable as the previous sampler (the winter wonderland sampler).
The sampler takes about 20 minutes or so burning until I can smell the candle well. The first time I used this candle I allowed the candle to burn for about four hours and unlike the winter wonderland sampler this candle burns slower - this is probably due to the new sampler holder as it is supposed to increase the burn time of samplers, which it does really well.
The scent of this candle while it is burning is really nice, it smells quite sweet but not overly sweet and it smells like biscuits to me. But I do not smell the almonds really strongly, which I think it should as it is a 'almond cookie' scented candle. I can smell a bit of a cookie dough scent - like freshly baked cookies but again the scent is not very strong. The scent is not very strong but it is definitely noticeable, especially when I walk into the room in which the candle is burning. After about four hours or so of the candle burning there is still more than half left, which is not what happened to my winter wonderland candle, so it must be the holder. The candles scent does dissipate well and the scent is really nice and not sickly at all - and there have been positive comments made about the scent too! After the candle has burnt out there will be a small metal disk left at the bottom, in which the wick was placed, so I just throw this away and remove the small amount of wax that is left in the glass holder and clean the container out so that it is ready for another sampler, which is easy to do.
- Overall, would I personally buy the almond cookie candle again?
Yes, I would buy this scented candle again in sampler form but I don't think I would buy a larger candle of this scent. The scent is really nice but the reason for not buying a larger candle is that the scent was not very strong - for my liking anyway. I will buy this in the future but not right now as I have a lot more scents to try out first!
- Price and availability
I bought this candle from Yankee Doodle (as recommended by the lovely angelboouk123/angelboouk). This sampler was priced at £1, which is amazing value and it is a great site too. This sampler can also be bought from amazon for £2.60 (including postage).
*Easy to use and the packaging is quite cute
*Scent is really nice - it smells to me like sweet cookies and biscuits which all combine to make a warm and cosy scent - great for autumn/winter
*Cheap - it £2.60 from amazon or £1 from yankee doodle
*Scent disperses well throughout a room
*Will last for about nine to 10 hours (with the specific sampler holder I have)
*The scent is not very strong - well not as strong as I would like this particular scent to be

Yankee Candle Almond Cookie Votive Sampler
Description: Manufacturer: Yankee Candle / Type: Candles
Anyone reading my earlier reviews (please accept my thanks, I am really grateful for all reads, rates and comments!) will already know my thoughts on the Yankee Candle company and buy loads of different candle products from them. They sell the most amazingly fragranced candles to gently scent your home. which also last really well and continue to smell great right until the end, unlike some scented candles which only smell the first time that they are lit.
A 48g votive candle will cost you around £1.55 and can be bough online or from a wide variety of shops and stalls. Unfortunately, Yankee Candles do tend to be a little more expensive than some brands, but because they last so long and smell so great, I do believe that they are worth the extra money. These votive candles give you around 15 hours of burning time. Remember to pop them in a candle holder because unlike the glass jars, they don't come in their own holders.
The fragrance of this one is delicious! Anyone who likes the small of almonds and marzipan will immediately fall in love with the scent which quickly fills your room and last for hours after the candle has been extinguished.
I have tried quite a few wax tarts from this range, and there are some great scents available but this is a favourite because it has such a distinctive sweet and mouth watering fragrance. If you imagine the scent of home baking and sweet marzipan then you will get the idea.
Whether you are using these candles in the living room, the bedroom or relaxing in a warm bubble bath with a glass of wine, the gorgeous smell will make you feel relaxed and peaceful. This fragrance is a firm favourite with me and well worth trying, even if they are a little more expensive than some brands!
Yankee Candle produce a large variety of candles in different sizes and scents. They may seem rather expensive at first, but the smaller sizes are relatively cheap and the quality is worth it.
This is a votive candle which is designed to be a sample size. It's a small cylinder about 4cm in diameter and 6cm tall, weighing approximately 50g. It cost me £1.60 from a stall in a shopping mall, and all the ones I've seen do discounts if you buy several. The candle is a pale beige colour and looks attractive if you display it around your house.
It's important to remember to place your votive in a votive holder. When it burns the wax melts outwards so if you don't use anything or put it on a plate then you'll end up with a mess.
The scent is called Almond Cookie. If you just smell the unlit candle it has a rather sharp strong marzipan scent that reminds me a little of playdoh. Still, I love almond so I persevered. Once lit I could smell wax, and then after a few minute the candle's scent came out. It smelt much nicer once lit. The almond scent was no longer overpowering and I could smell the cookie as well. It was as if I had delicious cookies baking in the oven. Even after I extinguished the candle the scent lingered in my house for a while.
The burn time on these is 15 hours, although I found that the last approximately 3 hours didn't have such a strong scent. It works out as just over 10p per hour which I think is great value, and with the small size I can try out lots of different scents before buying one of the larger sizes.
