Yankee Candle Autumn Pumpkin tart
I do really like my house to smell nice and as I was so thrilled when I found this tart in B+Q the other day when we were buying boring weed killer and lawn sand. I love Yankee candles but they are rather expensive and so I have to wait for presents to get these usually. Luckily these tarts are not too expensive and I believe these were about £1 each and as we had our Wednesday OAP discount card ( husband's not mine I hasten to add) that came down to 90p so I grabbed a few.
The 'Autumn Pumpkin' scented one I put in the kitchen as I thought that was an appropriate smell for that room. The kitchen door we keep shut at night to stop the cats sitting on the table or on the kitchen sides and when we go down in the morning it always smells a bit of last night's evening meal and just a bit stale. I used to have a lovely Yankee reed differ in the 'Spiced pumpkin' scent in here but sadly that is all gone now so this did a pretty good job when I lit it this morning. I had read a review on here by Laura and thought I fancy that scent and so when I found it in B+Q I was really pleased.
I love the sweet spiced pumpkin smell wafting through to the next room. It smelled like I had been baking spiced muffins or pumpkin pie. It smelled lovely and especially so on this miserable and rainy day that we are enjoying in April.
Yankee Candles the company originated in the USA. But have quickly become a household name over here . They offer a huge range of home fragrance products from sprays, reed diffusers through to all kinds of shapes and sizes of scented candles. They are often found in garden centres and gift shops so it is a case of keeping your eyes open. We do actually have a big Yankee Candle shop in the Westfield Centre in Derby and despite the fact that I rarely go in there as I find them very expensive I did buy this one from there. It is also worth noting that www.yankeedoodle.co.uk often has them at discounted prices if you want to order a few. Now I have found them in B&Q too , this was one of their 'Simply Home ' range but I think they had others too not 'Simply Home'.
I had to cut the very tightly sealed plastic wrap from the outside then as I took the tart out I had a good sniff. It smelled quite wonderfully sweet and pumpkin pi like. In fact more like baked pumpkin muffins straight from the oven. There was a vanilla creaminess with the deep sweet pumkin baing aroma that blended so beautifully that I would happily buy this again.
This little tart is a deep orangey brownish colour that melts to a clear dark browny colour in my burner. On the front is a picture of a large ripe orange pumpkin and not a lot else.
I popped the tart onto my brand new burner and I put a lighted tea light underneath and waited. The tart began to melt quite quickly and then the scent began to fill the room.
As the tart melted the scent became stronger and now there was definitely a wonderfully 'I've just been baking pumpkin muffins' smell filling my kitchen and even carrying beyond. It is one of Yankee' s warm, cosy comforting scents that is really suited to a colder time of year so perfect for our april weather this year.
I am now one of Yankee's biggest fans and I do love this scent it goes up there with the sandalwood one as one of my favourites. I put this one in the kitchen on the windowsill as ours is a tiled sill so there is no danger of the heat burning anything through the burner. Even though tea lights have the wax safely within their aluminium foils they can still create a massive amount of heat that will damage furniture as I discovered to my cost when I got scorch marks on a wooden table. I now put my burners either on the tiled surfaces or on a couple of drink mats that are heat proof just in case.
Another thing to be wary of is that you should NOT ever move a burner with melted wax as they are very hot and melted wax can cause nasty burns on skin or melted wax spilling can also cause wax stain damage or burns on carpets and other furnishings. Always put any burners out of the reach of children and never leave them in rooms unattended as candles can obviously cause fires. Someone I know put a tea light on their TV and left it, it melted the TV top and fell into the inside and set their room on fire so please be VERY careful they are to be treated as mini fires.
Having given all the dire warnings I am a big fan of candles and especially the scented ones as they give off lovely fragrances and also add atmosphere to a room with gentle flames flickering in their containers. They are a lovely addition to a room's ambience but just need to be treated with good sense.
I am absolutely delighted with this fragrance it is my sort of scent. I can sit in the room and close my eyes and imagine I am in a cake shop or visiting someone more 'Domestic Goddess ' than I am and I am going to be offered one of their freshly baked muffins. The scent does not knock you out with its strength but it was plenty strong enough to fill the room with its aroma.
Thank you Yankee candles for this lovely scented tart, I will certainly be buying this one again as it smells so wonderfully warm and comforting. This will be one that I will buy over and over again as it is just perfect in my view. This subtle sweet pumpkin pie smell wafts across the room. Even my husband has commented on how nice it smells and he isn't one to comment usually. The nice thing is that it smells natural and as though I have been busy in the kitchen. I'm not sure I'd want the smell in my bedroom or bathroom as to me it is very much a food sort of smell but that might just be me.
I can really smell the warm comforting wintery smells of spices , my husband says it smells like Christmas puddings cooking and he should know what they smell like as he makes at least six each year for relatives and friends. It is sweet, mildly wintery, creamy and with a hint of aromatic spices but quite a subtle blend not at all synthetic.
I would definitely recommend this 'Autumn Pumpkin' scent as a warm cosy fragrance captures the essence of a comforting welcoming home in my opinion. I am impressed with the smell and its ability to freshen the room and smell as though I have been a Domestic Goddess cooking pumpkin pies or spiced muffins in my kitchen instead of sitting with my laptop writing reviews! I would thoroughly recommend these tarts from Yankee candle. The scents are all quite different and all smell pleasant and natural as opposed to synthetic and unpleasant.

Yankee Candle is an American company offering a huge range of home fragrance products. They have a range known as "Simply Home" which offers various scented products. This range isn't as available in the UK.
Autumn Pumpkin is part of the Simply Home range. In the USA, it can be bought in jar form but within the UK, it can be bought in sampler votive or wax tart form. A wax tart is a small disc of wax which has been infused with essential oils. The tart should be placed in a burner and once metled, the scent will be released. Each tart is said to have 8 hours of scent in it.
Autumn Pumpkin in wax tart form, is a deep orange colour. It is shrink wrapped and features an image label of a pumpkin. There are similar "pumpkin" based scents available from Yankee. Autumn Pumpkin is described as :
"Pumpkins baked in simmering spices of clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and sweetened with brown sugar".
Within the UK, this tart is difficult to source though can be found if you search well.
*Amazon UK - 3 tarts for £4.99 (£3.00 p&p)
*Ebay UK - 3 tarts for £4.99 (£1.00 p&p)
I love Yankee candles and hope to try as many scents as possible. I recently purchased several Simply Home tarts from a large Birthdays store and paid £1.35 each for them. I wouldn't normally go for a pumpkin based scent but I was tempted by the delightfully unusual scent which could be detected through the packaging and decided to buy it. I'm a glad I did as it is amazing! I associate pumpkins with Halloween but I do feel this one could be burned at other times throughout the year.
I popped it into my tart burner for a few hours daily. It melted quickly forming an amber pool of wax which looks very deep and full of intense scent. I appreciate tarts which produce enough scent to travel around my home and this one does this with complete ease. It is very powerful and its unusual scent will have visitors wondering what you are burning or cooking.
Autumn Pumpkin is an extremely intense scent which quickly filters around my home (which is all on one level). It isn't a typical scent - it has something special about it which sets it aside from the normal sweet or floral scents that Yankee offer. It is a full bodied scent which is simply bursting with a nose-tingling aroma. The scent is very heavy - possibly too heavy for burning during the day or even in warmer weather. Autumn Pumpkin is ideal for cold nights as the scent and the whole experience is heart warming and enchanting (to me anyway).
So what does Autumn Pumpkin actually smell like? Well I have stated the official Yankee description though I would say my thoughts on the scent are slightly different. Autumn Pumpkin is quite a layered scent meaning at one point it will be offering one scent then it will change to something different. It may be too strong for many tastes but for me, it is perfectly constructed and presents itself well to be fufilling but not overpowering.
The description of the scent from Yankee would make anyone consider this to be a sweet and spicy scent and I agree with that though there is more to it. The heady scent of Autumn Pumpkin is very "foody". It offers a blend of sweetness, spiciness and undertones of something savoury like so really is a mixed bag. My burner is lit in my alcove and I usually sit a few metres away. From here I can detect a heartwarming, succulent sweet aroma from the brown sugar. It is a tempting scent - very sweet and food like.
There is a delicious blend of spices in the scent which compliment and lessen the sugary sweetness. I would say the clove scent is quite prominent and is combined with undertones of cinnamon for a deep, rich scent which is very warming and cosy. The spices offer a good kick to the scent allowing the sweetness to not take over completely. The actual pumpkin aroma is very subtle in my opinion and I do feel that is what adds the savoury scent to tart. The overall scent reminds me of baking a spicy cake rather than my usual cupcakes or sponges and I do feel Yankee have captured the different scents perfectly and have created the most unusual yet appealing scent which could have easily been mismatched and muddled.
I didn't expect to like this one as much as I thought it would be too heavy on the pumpkin scent. I love it though and will be buying more to keep in my Yankee box. The scent of Autumn Pumpkin remains consistent in filling my whole home with a heady scent (which over rides any other homely scents). Whilst burning this tart, I could detect a familar scent which took a while to place. It wasn't until my sister commented that she could smell a faint hint of salty popcorn - it was the tart!
I burned for a few hours each time and after the tealight went out, the spiciness remained prominent in the air for an hour or so. I managed to get 12hours of scent from one tart which is brilliant and it is definetly a high quality tart. The tart solidifies after each use and I can still smell it without it being burned.
I would recommend this one who appreciate spicy sweet scents but who want to receive a savoury edge to a scent.
Thanks for reading :)
