Yankee Candle Be Thankful
Advantages: nice scent, but so weak. high quality candle.
Disadvantages: It was pointless burning this one to fragrance the room.
Yankee Candle are an American company who make high quality scented candles. I purchased a selection of the smaller votive or sampler candles just before Christmas, based upon the product description on the website yankeedirect.com.
I decided to take advantage of the special offer that they run. Candles of this size (49g) are priced at £1.60, but if you buy ten of them, you get 2 free.
'Be thankful' appealed to me as it was described as 'the warm inviting aromas of a Thanksgiving kitchen.' Now Americans make such a big thing of Thanksgiving so I imagined this to be a really special scent. However, it has been rather a disappointment to me.
The sampler was packaged as all the other votives I have purchased have been, wrapped in shrink wrapped plastic to preserve the candle till I used it. The colour of this one looked more orange than any other colour through the plastic, which seemed really suitable to me, as it is the colour of pumpkins for pumpkin pie.
When I took the plastic off the candle, a fair amount of colour had transferred to the plastic, but it didn't look particularly faded to me like some of the red candles have. The label looked like a kitchen scene, with a lattice topped pie taking centre stage, and various fruit and vegetables in the background, and a rolling pin to the foreground.
The candle initially had some scent to it before I burned it. I couldn't really pick out any individual scent, but it was a little sweet but a bit non-descript. I could say it was a bit reminiscent of food cooking, but I couldn't pick any individual item out, though my guess is it is pumpkin pie they are going for, or perhaps a touch of
When the candle was burning, it was the usual high quality in that it lit easily, burnt evenly, and was quick to solidify once I blew the candle out. I could detect some of the same aroma I had smelt before lighting, though it was very weak and less eventful than it was initially. My overall impression is that it was pleasant enough if right next to it, but move it away from under your nose, and the scent was replaced by what any candle smells like while burning.
I burned this for over an hour, and upon blowing out the candle the scent rapidly disappeared, which was no surprise as it only affected a small area of the room while burning.
This particular fragrance did nothing for me I'm afraid, and it is not one I would either recommend or repurchase. There are many nicer fragrances available that I would rather buy.
Summary: Move on, there is nothing to smell here.
