Yankee Candle Black Cherry
Advantages: very realistic fruity fragrance, good quality candle,
Disadvantages: doesn't fill a large area, scent has a slight artificial tint.
I would still describe myself as a novice to the Yankee Candle range. Just before Christmas 2011, I decided to treat myself to some of the range while I was ordering some Christmas presents from Yankee direct.com. I decided to try out a range of different scents in the votive or sampler format as I had no idea what I would really like, and I felt £1.60 was a big enough expenditure on one fragrance in case I was not fond of it.
There was an offer of 10 votives for the price of 8, and Black Cherry was one of the fragrances that appealed to me. I am not a fan of eating black cherries, but the fruity scent does appeal to me. I was also attracted to the vibrant reddy purple shade of the wax, and the description of 'the absolutely delicious sweetness of rich, ripe black cherries' had me sold.
When the candle arrived it was wrapped in a cellophane packet to preserve freshness until I was ready to use it. There was a sticker on the packet showing that it was a black cherry candle, and if I was in any doubt there was a picture of succulent cherries on there too.
Before lighting this for the first time, I didn't feel the candle smelled that strongly, so I was a bit wary and thinking it might not be that good. This fear disappeared on my first use of the candle, when I immediately was hit with a scent of sweet cherry that reminded me so strongly of the old 80s favourite pudding of Black Forest Gateau.
The scent remained pure and sweet, as I burned the candle for over an hour while I poached in the bath, and it made my bathroom fill with the lovely aroma. I find some of the sweeter fragrances can be a bit too much for me and after a while they can make me feel a bit queasy. This is not like that at all, the scent is pleasant for the duration.
I wish it would linger around for a bit longer after I have used it but I feel that I can't really fault this one for its quality. The scent is exactly what it says on the label. Maybe slightly more artificial than real cherries but not in an offensive way to my nostrils.
I have found my votive to burn very cleanly, with no soot on the glass holder. The wax melts quickly, and resets quickly when I stop using it. Votives are meant to give up to 15 hours of scent, and this fits well with my experience of using votives.
I wish the scent would spread over a wider area, but I am finding not many of the votives have a strong enough scent to fill my large living room/dining room. I just make sure I position this one near me to get the full effect of it as it releases its lovely fruity fragrance.
Summary: Another high quality product from yankee candle.
