Who doesn't love Yankee Candles? I know I do.. in fact I love them a bit too much and I have a slight obsession with them, lol. I buy so many yankee candles but I guess I can justify this as I get through them so quickly due to having four dogs; I always make sure I have a candle lit both during the day and in the evening to prevent, or atleast minimalise that 'dog' kind of smell, as although I have grown used to the smell of my dogs, I am aware that to guests the smell may be quite prominant - this is something I am concious of hence why I get through so many candles! I much prefer candles to air freshners as I feel that air freshners are quite chemical heavy - and as I have a young baby I don't want her breathing any chemicals in.
I don't often buy the large jars of Yankee candles and prefer to experiment with lots of different frangrances in either sampler or tart form, as they are much cheaper to buy - plus if I don't like the smell I don't have to keep burning it for the sake of it to avoid wasting it! I recieved lots of different yankee candles last Christmas, including two of the large candles in jars - one of which was 'Black Cherry'. I had never tried this fragrance before, simply because the smell of cherries didn't particulary appeal to me, however I was pleasantly suprised upon lifting the lid off of the jar and I lit it pretty much straight away after opening it, in the living room on Christmas day. The wick was a decent size and easy to light - I simpy used a match. The smell soon filled the room and created a lovely, comforting smell which went perfectly with the Christmas theme.
This is a very rich fragrance which although foody and mouth waterring, isn't overlly sweet or in your face. The scent is obviously cherry, which smells completely fresh and natural - unlike a lot of other fruit scented candles the smell has no chemical, synthetic or unpleasant undertones which I think is due to the high quality of Yankee's range of candles. Despite being cherry scented, this is a unisex scent in my opinion as it is not overlly sweet. I think a lot of people (well, men) would avoid this and think it is a feminine, overlly sweet/floral scent, but it really isn't.
Yankee describe the scent as 'absolutely delicious sweetness of rich, ripe black cherries' and their description is spot on. The scent is almost mouth waterring and it really creates a homely, cosey kind of environment which is ideal for in the evenings while relaxing. In my opinion this is more of a cold weather kind of scent as it is rich and comforting rather than fresh and uplifting if that makes sense. Price wise, the large 22 ounce jar which I have retails for anywhere between £15 and £20 depending on where you buy it from, and the fragrance can also be purcased in other forms - eg wax tart, votive, sampler, small jars etc.
The 22 ounce jar has a burn time of 110 to 150 hours and even when the candle is not lit, if you lift the lid off the smell will leak out and leave a faint fragrance in the room. Once the candle has been blown out, the scent lingers in the room for a couple of hours, and gradually fades away. I have had my jar since Christmas and have used it quite a bit, and it has almost (unfortunately!) ran out, which is a real downer as I can not really justify buying a £20 candle when there are much cheaper alternatives available, however due to the lasting power and good quality I do think it is overall worth the hefty price tag. Overall, I reccomend Black Cherry - it smells amazing!
Summary: A great quality candle which smells gorgeous
