~Black Cherry~
Black Cherry is a popular scent offered by candle company, Yankee Candle. This particular scent is available in different formats including various sized candle jars, tealights and tumblers. The cheapest way to sample this scent is by purchasing a wax tart. A wax tart is a tart shaped piece of solid wax which has been pumped full of natural extracts. It should be melted in a tart burner with a tealight underneath and can be reused until the scent is gone. Yankee promise at least 8 hours of scent per 22g wax tart.
The Black Cherry wax tart is deep red in colour and tightly wrapped. The label illustrates freshly picked cherries. The official description of Black Cherry is 'the delicious sweetness of rich, ripe black cherries'.
~Price and Availability~
Black Cherry is readily available from local Yankee stockists. It can also be purchased online and you should expect to pay between £1.00 and £1.25 per tart. Online stockists include Amazon, eBay and www.yankeescents4.com.
~My Thoughts~
I buy this tart occasionally as my fiance loves the smell of cherries. He often complains that the tarts I melt are too girly but I feel Black Cherry is one which will appeal to both men and women. The tart is presented well and on unwrapping it, the strong cherry fragrance is unmistakeable. I own a Yankee petal burner which has a deep bowl so normally pop the full tart in rather than split it - it is up to you what you choose to do though.
I melt wax tarts in my home as I like to witness different aromas and create a welcoming ambience. Black Cherry melts to form an intense pool of deep red wax. The scent filters around my livingroom quite quickly and can also be detected in my hallway and kitchen at a much subtler level. I find that Black Cherry does take a while to reach a desirable strength of scent which surprises me given how strongly the solid tart smells.
You really do need to be a fan of cherries to appreciate this scent otherwise there is no point in using it! Black Cherry elimates cooking odours well and does a good job at fragrancing the area it is melted in. I find this one perfect for using in the evening as it does offer a homely, warming sort of scent which lingers in the background. Unlike a lot of Yankee scents, Black Cherry focuses on the one fragrance note rather than many but the scent is still appealing
The overall aroma is quite natural smelling. The black cherry scent is very juicy, rich and full of flavour - mouthwatering to be exact. The wax tart sends out a gorgeous sweet aroma which lingers at just the right strength to avoid being overbearing or sickly. The depth of the scent is what makes it ideal for using in the evening. It is a comforting and pleasant to have melting in the background but I do find that I get bored of the scent after a while hence why I only buy this one occasionally.
Black Cherry lingers in the air for a good 30-45mins after the tealight is blown out. Each time I have melted this wax tart, I have experienced around 10 hours of noticeable scent which is good.
~Conclusion~
I do like the scent of Black Cherry but it isn't my favourite. I personally favour the more layered, multi-dimensional Cherries On Snow. Both scents are quite different though and are suited to being used at different times. I do prefer Black Cherry for cold evenings. My fiance loves this scent as mentions that it does remind him of real black cherries.
I find that the wax tart represents excellent value for money and can award it 4 stars.
Thanks for reading :)
