      Yankee Candle Housewarmer Jar

I love Yankee Candle products and have had a few of the small Housewarmer Jars, but I usually buy the wax tarts as for me they offer better value for money. I can try lots of different scents and not worry that I have wasted a lot of cash if I don't happen to like a fragrance.

A few months ago I was shopping at a Designer Outlet and noticed a stall selling various Yankee Candle products, amongst them were a select few Medium Housewarmer Jars selling at half price, so £7.50 instead of £14.99. One of the fragrances available was the Canary Island Banana, it caught my eye as I love the scent of banana. I removed the lid and had a a quick sniff, and was impressed with how it smelled.
The scent is described as "The lusciously sweet, creamy scent of pure Canary Island banana extract. Situated off the northwest coast of Africa, Spain's Canary Islands are a tropical Eden.
Here grows miniature bananas, smaller and sweeter than their Caribbean cousins. Discover Canary Island Banana."

The candle comes in a glass jar, it has a glass lid with a rubber seal similar to a kilner jar lid. It is quite dumpy looking but also looks to be in proportion. When unlit is a lovely creamy yellow colour, the colour of ripe bananas when they have been peeled.

Of course when I arrived home I was eager to light the candle and see how it smelled once the wax had warmed up.
I lit it and the fragrance wasn't released immediately, but it didn't really take too long I think it probably took around ten minutes. The candle is quite large as it weighs 14.5 ounces so this didn't surprise me.

Once the it had warmed up though the scent filled the living room, and I am pleased to say it did indeed smell of bananas. Not exactly fresh bananas more like an artificial scent such as banana essence or banana medicine I remember as a child. For me the fragrance is gorgeous, it is lovely and sweet and it reminds me of summer.
As I'm writing this review, the rain is lashing at my window and it is completely miserable outside so I have the candle lit to cheer me up a little bit. I also love how the candle looks when it is alight, especially now some of the wax has melted. It gives off a lovely sunshine yellow glow which is really cheerful.

When the candle is extinguished the scent lingers in the room for hours afterwards. If you are sat in the room you stop noticing it but if you leave and come back in the lovely banana scent greets you again.

I have found that you need to keep the wick trimmed otherwise the flame can create a lot of soot around the edge of the jar.

The burn time of a medium Housewarmer Jar is 65 - 90 hours, I'm not exactly sure how many hours I have been using the candle for but I would guess probably around 30 - 40 hours and it has burned about half way down. The fragrance is still as strong as when I first started using it.

I did wonder whether it had been discontinued with it being half price but it is still for sale at Yankee Doodle.

      Small Housewarmer Jar RRP £7.49
      Medium Housewarmer Jar RRP £14.99
      Warming Oil RRP £6.49
      Pillar Candle RRP £5.49
