~Christmas Tree~
Christmas Tree, as you would expect given its title, is part of the festive scent range offered by candle company, Yankee Candle. It can be bought in different formats which carry different price tags including the cheaper wax tarts and votives and also the more expensive candle jars.
I will be discussing my use of the Christmas Tree wax tart. For those who are not familiar with Yankee Candle, a wax tart is a disc of solid wax which has no wick. It should be melted in a tart burner and can be re-used until the scent is no longer noticeable. Yankee Candle state around 8 hours of scent will be achieved but this varies from scent to scent. The wax tarts are infused with natural scent extracts.
The Christmas Tree wax tart is unsurprisingly green in colour. The tart is tightly wrapped in clear plastic and the label on the front illustrates a family collecting their Christmas Tree out in the snow. Yankee describe this scent as 'like going out in the snow to find that special tree...fresh, familiar pine with crisp eucalyptus'.
~Price~
The Christmas scents are being released into local shops at the moment so you may come across this tart on the highstreet. Failing that, a 22g tart can be purchased online priced from £1.00 to £1.25. Current stockists include www.yankeescents4u.com, eBay and Amazon.
~My Thoughts~
Not only am I crazy on Yankee Candles, I am also addicted to all things festive. I think I have sampled 90% of the festive scents that Yankee offer and so far, I have only been disappointed with a few. Christmas Tree is one I wasn't sure about buying at first but I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Some scents I haven't been drawn to initially have turned out to be excellent purchases but sadly. Christmas Tree is not one I will be repurchasing.
I bought this towards the end of last year as part of a mixed bundle online but didn't use it immediately as I favoured the more sweet or spicy festive scents like Welcome Christmas. I thought this would be a pleasant fresh scent for using during the day especially with the eucalyptus being included. The tart in solid format isn't too bad - it does smell of pine trees but nothing overpowering or cloying. The tart melted to form a deep green pool of wax and within a few minutes, a really strong, heady scent started to filter around my living room and around our flat.
This is when I became unimpressed. The eucalyptus wasn't noticeable - no fresh or medicinal aroma at all. The pine tree scent didn't resemble actual pine trees. There was no 'walking through a fresh forest' smell there. With the majority of Yankee scents I have tried, the scent is natural and similar to the description but I found this one to be quite chemical smelling and I am glad I didn't chose to use this one on Christmas Day.
The actual scent hanging in the air, and quite strongly I may add, did resemble a form of pine though - pine scented toilet cleaner. I'm sure many will agree here that whilst they wish their toilet to be clean and fresh, they don't want that chemical pine smell fragrancing their whole home. It did eliminate all other odours (cooking etc) in my home but the overall scent was just not a homely nor pleasant scent to fill my home with. I certainly couldn't relax with this tart melting in the background nor did I feel it enhanced the clean feeling of my home. It simply smelled like a cheap toilet cleaning liquid.
~Conclusion~
I do not favour wastage so did end up using this tart up in my bathroom as this is where I feel it belongs! It did last a good 10 hours and remained strong for the duration of the melting time. I wouldn't buy this again nor can I recommend it as it smells cheap and nasty. There are much better Yankee scents on offer and even if you like pine scents, this one is unlikely to appeal in my opinion.
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: not for this house!
