Since my trip to America last year and discovering the Yankee outlet store I have been a little bit addicted to Yankee and the deliciously named candles. So when I saw this reed diffuser, I just couldn't resist.
The thing that most attracted me was the glass bottle, mine looks different to the plain one in the sample picture. Mine is more square and has a transparent picture of a garden scene with a beautiful blue butterfly fluttering by. It is attractive enough to have on display and I think it looks lovely on my hallway window sill. Some other air fresheners are so unsightly and need to be hidden (except the ones that look like rocks of course ;-) They're from Glade you know !! )
In the box you get the bottle of scented oil and about six wooden sticks, the idea is that you place the sticks into the bottle, where they will happily drink up the oil and diffuse it into the air for a gorgeous smelling room.
When you feel the scent is no longer powerful just turn the sticks over and it refreshes them.
The clean cotton scent is beautifully fresh and awakening, it does invoke images of clothes hanging on a washing line gently swaying in the breeze. It is a clean scent. I have used the clean cotton candles before and found them a lot more subtle than this reed diffuser, I also think this has a hint of lemon in it, which I didn't get with the candles.
The bottle will last about three months, I have had mine just over 10 weeks and there is only a tiny bit of oil left in the bottom.
What I like about this and reed diffusers in general is that as long as you rotate the reeds, the scent does not fade, it remains constant until the oil runs out.
I bought this from Clinton cards for £12.99. I know that is a lot of money for an air fresher and my husband nearly fell off his chair. BUT ... it lasts three months, it looks very pretty and it makes the whole house smell clean and beautiful.
I am definitely going to buy another one to replace my one, my only problem is deciding if I should go for clean cotton again or try the one called 'drift away'.
I got 1 of these for my birthday. My friends and family know that I like Candles and nice smelling things, and I had never tried a Reed Diffuser before, but someone thought it would be something I would like and I have to say they were right. I can see myself buying another one of these.
Since I got this for a present I wasn't sure of the price of this, but after looking online I see this sells for anything between £11-£16.
This is a 190ml bottle of scent with a small handful of thin wood Reeds in a cardboard box. You can see the Bottle and Reeds through the box so at least you can see what you are buying.
This is a simple idea. All you do is open the bottle, stick the Reeds into it and that's it. The Reeds soak up the oil and although i'm sure you could get the scent just by having the bottle open it isn't as pretty and also I doubt you would get the same spread of scent like what you get with the fragrant Reeds. The Reeds settle in different directions when poking out the top of the bottle. They don't really get in the way, but it's a good idea to put this on a surface with space around it.
I've put mine in my bathroom on a small shelf at the side of the toilet and this is the only thing that sits on it.
At first when looking at the oil it never seemed to be going down, which i'm not complaining about but I wondered if the Oil would eventually just lose it's scent. Now the Oil level has dropped a bit, so it seems that the Oil will just get used up. I see the Reeds have now changed colour to a slightly more darker colour and to touch them they don't feel Oily but you can feel a slight texture to them.
The scent is nice. I've always liked this scent from Yankee candle. It is a fresh scent which is quite strong in a way but just a nice clean, just washed scent. Perhaps not to everyone's taste though.
Hard to say how long this will last. I've been using it for 3 months, and it looks roughly about a third of the way down, so this could last around 10 months quite easily I think. It may seem expensive for the price, but if it is going to last all that time then I would say it is a good enough buy.
1 I will buy again or I may try another scent from the range as there is so many to choose from.
I discovered the delights of Yankee Candles about a year ago and have bought many of their products since. It has actually become a bit of an addiction, they just smell divine!
For those of you who do not know anything about Yankee Candles and want to save their money keep it that way because their products do not come cheap! For those who want to know Yankee Candle is an American company who specialize in candles and air fresheners in unusual scents. I am yet to find one I haven't loved, until now.
This is the second reed diffuser I have purchased and I loved the first one, it gave out a constant, delightful scent for months so I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations.
The reed diffuser looks lovely and would fit the decor of most bedrooms well. The bottle is clear so you can see how much of the scent is left and the reeds spread nicely to give the diffuser a balanced look.
The scent is the disappointing factor, although it smells lovely, actually smelling clean and crisp it is just not powerful enough. You have to stand over the diffuser and sniff to get any real scent from it which rather negates the point of the product. On occasion if you have had all your windows closed and walk in from outside you may notice the smell but you really need to be concentrating on it.
Because of the oil in the bottle if the reeds touch any paint work they will strip it, I have several small burn marks on my wall where the reeds have been knocked into the paintwork. The oil will last for a year or more, mine is still going ten months on with a third of the bottle left.
Place the natural reeds in the decorative fragrance bottle, they absorb the scent oil, draw it to the top and diffuse it into the room air.
