Yankee Candle Wax Tart Clean Cotton
Advantages: lovely fresh smell, lasts a long time
Disadvantages: none for me
A few weeks ago I received a thankyou gift from O2 for being with them on contract for a year. I had a choice of £10 gift vouchers and one of these included Debenhams. Having recently discovered Yankee candles I decided to head down to my local branch and pick a selection. I tend to burn wax tarts rather than the candles themselves as they are cheaper and mean that I can experiment with the different scents and if I don't like one it's not an expensive loss. One of the ones that I added to my basket was the Clean Cotton scent. This is actually a repurchase for me. It was one of the first scents that I tried in the Yankee range and as I liked it so much I had no hesitation in putting this in my basket again.
If you're not familiar with Yankee candles, wax tarts are basically small circular pieces of wax with a fluted edge, rather like a tart you'd bake in the oven. Unlike conventional candles they have no wick and so have to be placed in a tart burner to melt and release their fragrance. At around £1.20 Wax tarts are much cheaper than full sized candles and allow you to try fragrances without making a commitment. Each wax tart releases around 8 hours of fragrance.
The Clean Cotton tart is a white in colour and has a picture of laundry drying in the garden on the front. Yankee describe this scent as one that is combined with green notes, white flowers and a hint of lemon. The tart comes in a clear cellophane wrap. I usually smell the tart through the wrap to get an idea of what the tart may smell like when burnt. This had quite a strong smell - one that I would describe as quite sweet, yet also quite fresh. It does smell a lot like fabric conditioner, but for me that is a good thing! I often tend to burn tarts for a couple of hours in the evening whilst relaxing in front of the tv. This one however I like to burn after I've tidied my flat on a weekend morning as it really freshens the place up. I also think this scent is more of a day-time one. I find it is also great at getting rid of strong smells from cooking, for example, if I've made a curry or rice. This tart takes around 15 minutes to form a clear pool of wax. Not long after the scent from this candle starts to waft around the room.
The scent is one that I would describe as really quite pleasant and although sweet, it is not one that I would describe as flowery or too girly and so I think would be liked by men and women alike. It smells of freshly washed laundry and reminds me of playing in the garden whilst clothes were drying on the line and being enveloped in a great big bed sheet as the wind blew in my direction. It is really quite lovely and due to the memory it conjures up, also quite comforting - who doesn't like the smell of fresh laundry? The scent is quite strong and it travels around the room well. After burning for around an hour the scent does start to get a bit much, at which point I extinguish the tea light. The scent lingers afterwards for several hours and I can often detect some even the next day.
Overall this is one of my favourite scents from Yankee. The scent is really quite nice, and due to its strength a little really goes a long way. Yankee tarts have around 8 hours of burn time and I've got a little more than that out of this tart, which is great! Recommended!
