The Yankee Candle idea began in 1969 when a young Mike Kittredge melted down some crayons to make his mother a Christmas Candle. The Candle was so impressive a neighbour asked to buy the candle, so Mike Kittredge agreed and made another. From then on the Yankee Candle has become synonymous in the fragrance candle market and now has over 150 fragrances to its name.
The Yankee Candle range can be quite expensive when you first look at them. They have 4 main candle types:-
(They also create car fresheners and aromatherapy scents).
The most well know range is the Jars, which come in several sizes and styles:-
Large, Medium and Small Jars
Large, Medium and Regular Tumblers
Presentation, Packaging and Price
I purchased my Clean Cotton a while ago from Ebay as it was on offer for £12. I think normally the large jars are about £18.00
The Large Jars are huge!!!. They are in an enormous glass jar which holds 22oz of candle. On the front there is an image of a washing line with celan washing on it. The Glass Jar is very classy and can be used again if so wished. It is a strong glass and the the design is simple but gorgeous. The large jars are very luxurious and are a real treat!
The fragrance of ‘Clean Cotton' smells like a load of fresh clean dry washing that has just come in off the line on a warm summers day. It smells of clean cotton with a hint of lemon and flowers and is subtle but still enough to fill a room with fragrance
When you light the candle the fragrance soon fills your whole room and is warming and inviting. Unlike other brands of candle this fragrance doesn’t fade into the background but remains strong, but not overpowering to the last drop!
The large jars have a burning time of 110 to 150 hours so for the price tag are well worth the money.
Well where do I start? I am absolutely addicted to Yankee Candles! This one has to be my favourite. It smells divine -- like fresh clean washing. There are lots of different smells/colours in the Yankee range, from small votive candles to the large jars. Well worth the money. Would 100% recommend.
As my other reviews will show I am quite new to the YC craze, however since being introduced I am now hooked!
YC does a massive range of scented candles and clean cotton is part of that range. Clean Cotton is available in tarts, tea lights, votives, small, medium and large jars and also Ive seen this in tumbler like sizes in small and large. YC are stocked in Debenhams, Clinton Cards, House of Fraser and online via Amazon or EBay. I like to smell my YC before buying and I have been able to smell this one in several places, not all sizes are stocked but if you are able to smell it first and like it then you should be able to buy it in the size you want online. Price wise expect to pay around £1.50 for a single wax tart, £8 for a box of 12 tea lights, £3 for a votive, £8 for a small jar, £13 for a medium jar and £20 for a large jar, tumblers are around £10 for a small and £20 for a large, prices will vary on seller and it is possible to get discount codes or other offers. I have also seen clean cotton as a car scent type of thing which you can buy for around £2 in Halfords. YC jars and tumblers are packaged in a glass jar with lid, each have labels on describing what scent they are, votives and wax tarts are not in glass jars and are recommended to be added to a holder to avoid ruining furniture.
When I first smelled this I was hooked on it. YC are most definitely well known for good smelling fresh natural fragrances and clean cotton does not disappoint. Its not overpowering or sickly but a nice airy fresh clean cotton scent which when its lit does fill the room well but not so you choke on it. As it goes among the ones I've tried before its one of the more subtle scents but its still easy to smell when burning it. This is a perfect scent to freshen up a home or to get rid of nasty smells like smoke, pet or cooking, I tend to light this one after cooking a curry to freshen up the air.
YC although are expensive really do last. I got given a large jar several months ago and with regular use it's still got about 1/4 left. The large jars last 115-150 hours, medium 65-90 hours, small 25-40 hours, small tumbler 35-45 hours, large tumbler 70-90 hours, votives up to 15 hours, wax tart up to 8 hours and tea lights 4-6 hours. I burn my large jars most evenings and they really do last a long time, cost effective wise if you like scented candles it really does make sense to buy these.
Clean cotton is one of my favourite YC scents and sits proudly amongst my collection. I try to rotate which ones I use but this one is used more after cooking than the others because I like the fresh smell it gives the flat. Most definitely worth a buy
REVIEWING: Yankee Candle, Large Jar, Clean Cotton Fragrance.
All information correct as of the date of my review (Dec 2013)
YANKEE CANDLE COMPANY:
Yankee Candle worlds best loved candle since 1969, made from the finest ingredients, helping you make memories, an American company, but is now recognised all over the world and enjoyed by many, with over 150 fragrances, there is a fragrance for everyone and plenty of pretty, delightful works of art with lots of candle holders to choose from. Yankee Candle (Europe) Headquarters are based in Avonmouth, near Bristol, England.
HOW I CAME ACROSS THIS PRODUCT:
My mother-in-law had been always been burning these candles, throughout her house, different scents in every room yet they worked beautifully together, drifting throughout the house.
When looking through a closing down sale, I came across some large Yankee candle jars, many of which were strong in both colour and scent, being a lover of simple smells, I fell in-love with the fresh smell and versitile colour of the Clean Cotton Yankee Candle Jar and for £9.99 which is half the price of the original price tag, was worth the risk.
TIPS: Removing and smelling the inside of the lid, from the jars, gives a more accurate scent of what the candle will smell like when burning.
Using different candles throughout your space or alternating them regularly helps prevent you from getting too used to the smell.
If your candle has a large, mushroom shaped wick, once cold, snipping the end of the wick will help stop, black smoking from happening and prevents the mushroom from bursting. (this doesn't need to be done and isn't a problem, but best to keep it away from a wall encase it does decide to smoke a little.)
The range consists of many different types and size of candles including, Tea Lights, Samplers, Wax Melt Tarts, Large Jar Candles, Medium Jar Candles, Small Jar Candles, Large Pillars, Medium Pillars, Small Pillars, Tumblers, Large Vase Candles and Medium Vase Candles. There are also lots of room sprays, car air freshers and defusers. Clean cotton comes in most of the different types Yankee have to offer.
SCENT AND BURNING TIME:
Yankee Candle describes this particular candle as 'Sun-dried cotton combined with green notes, white flowers, and a hint of lemon,' that provides 110 to 150 hours of true fragrance enjoyment burning time.
I love the scent of freshly laundered sheets, so pure and fresh, this is exactly how this stunninly scented candle smells.
I usually find that the burning time is longer than Yankee describes and any left over wax that can't be burnt by the wick, can be melted or picked out to use as a wax tart.
PACKAGING AND SIZE:
The Large Yankee Candle Jars are their signature smooth, sleek jars and would match any decor.
The clean cotton scented candle comes in a fresh, winter, white colour, sometimes a little more yellow (they can vary slightly)
The jar has a clear sticker with the title 'YANKEE CANDLE' America's Best Loved Candle, with an image underneath of a washing line, with 2 blue garments hanging from it, with a wicker basket below and a white washed fence. This sticker can easily be peeled off if you just want the fresh, plain candle displayed.
NET Weight: 22 Oz / 623g.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY:
Unfortunately I seem to be noticing that Yankee Candles are getting harder to find in the United Kingdom. You can purchase them through the Offical Yankee Candle Website, QVC Shopping Channel and website, Clintons Cards, Amazon and Ebay. Large Jars Retail Value at £19.99 but occassionally on offer.
I highly recommend Yankee candles, especially Clean Cotton which is one of my most favourite fresh smells and not too heavy.
You know that feeling and smell of fresh clean cotton sheets that you have just washed and put on the bed and that are so comfortable to just dive on ... well, now you can get that smell in a candle and have your whole room smell of fresh clean cotton/washing.
I love Yankee Candle products and this is the perfect candle for a bright spring summer day and one I love to burn during this time of the year as it really smells up my bedroom with a lovely fresh clean scent.
I have this candle in a small jar which I think is an ornament in itself. The jar is made of quite a thick glass so I always feel confident burning it as I know its not going to make the surface it is resting on too hot or cause any damage. The lid is nice and thick and chunky too but obviously if you want to burn the candle you need to take this off. I always put the lid on afterwards as it has a suction cup around the edge which I think keeps the candle nice and fresh and the smell inside to make it last. A small Yankee Candle jar will last between 25-40 hours which is a really long time in my opinion. I usually only burn my candle for an hour or so at a time so this is over a months worth of burning which is great value and plus I don't burn it everyday. In fact I never usually get to the end of a Yankee Candle jar, I just keep them around to decorate and then buy new flavours!
The smell of clean cotton is described as, "Sun-dried cotton combined with green notes, white flowers, and a hint of lemon." To me it has a really nice fresh scent, not too strong at all, but enough that it smells up the whole room with a relaxing fragrance that's not too overbearing.
On the front of this jar is written the words, Clean Cotton - with pure natural plant extracts, so you know which candle you have. This is a nice clean white candle the label has a idyllic scene, a white picket fence with some washing hanging up that is blowing in the wind and so you can have a guess at the fragrance before you even smell it.
I purchased mine at our local Hallmark store but you can also purchase them from the website and they cost in the £9 region. A fragrance and candle I recommend.
Bought this as thought for £9.99 was a bargin smells lush when smell it but when burn i cant smell nothing lack of sent been burning three days now.smells of nothing ! Disappointed will stick to grapeyard
I discovered the joys of Clean Cotton Yankee candles whilst at my sister in laws holiday home in Italy last summer. We settled in for an evening meal and needed some mood lighting, and from that first spark I have been hooked!
I think the glass jar packaging is durable, sturdy and most of all it looks pretty. The durability also makes it easy to store. The labelling can split opinions, but I like it. I find it not tacky and fits in with most decor. For those who don't agree, it is removable so you can enjoy the lovely scents without the label.
I have always loved the smell of clean, fresh washing. This Yankee Candle embodies all those smells and more. For me, it evokes so many memories of my childhood and of folding washing with my mum. Alas, I digress. Unlike other candles I have used, this is the one I find most real to what it says it should be and doesn't overpower. I find it almost organic smelling, without the chemical smells other scented candles have.
I find the burning time to be really good on this candle, and as the scent fills the room very quickly even after it goes out the scent continues long after, which I love.
This is the one sticking point of this product for me. It is really expensive for a candle, a luxury item. This may partly be because I only like the biggest one as I find it looks better in my house. Because of this, Yankee Candle Cotton Fresh finds itself on many a birthday and Christmas list which means I can stock up for the rest of the year. Other than that, on Money Saving Expert forum there are often tips and codes for discounts for these products.
This is an amazing candle, which is good for your own home and as a gift.
WHAT IS IT?
Clean Cotton is a wax tart from Yankee Candle. It is white and this tart is one of their clean fragrances that freshens the air instead of making it smell nice.
Clean Cotton has got a very fresh smell that is light and very clean. It will be good for spring when it gets here because it makes the air smell fresh and new. It smells like a weaker variety of Fairy fabric softener and has got a very cotton fresh fragrance. I like how it fragrances my room but it melts into the air instead of being a strong smell. There is a little bit of a flowery fragrance but this is not very strong and it does not make the wax tart smell less clean.
WHAT I THINK
I like Clean Cotton very much for the clean fragrance it gives to my home. I have bought this fragrance for a long time and would usually burn it in the large jar but I was gifted some in wax tart version for Christmas so I am now using them. The jar is very much the same as the wax tart but I like that I can light the candle when I want to and that it will last a long time but the wax tart has to be changed too often. It only lasts for 6 hours and that is poor for a Yankee Candle wax tart but the jar lasts for many hours.
I like to burn it in the bedroom when I am using a jar because I think it makes the room smell fresher after we have slept there all night. I think it is nice in any room of my home but the fragrance does not travel through the rooms so I move my candles around to where I want the fragrance to be, other fragrances drown it out very easily also so remember not to light other scented candles at the same time.
A large jar of Clean Cotton costs £18 and the wax tarts are about £1.20. I will buy a jar again when I have used up my wax tarts because it is easier to move around and is better value because of how long it lasts.
4 Dooyoo Stars.
I purchased a Yankee Candle wax tart burner before Christmas and have been slowly working my way through some of the Yankee scents. When I ordered the wax tart burner I choose a little selection of the wax tarts to try too. One that appealed to me immediately was this "clean cotton" scent, as I love the smell of washing powder and clean clothes.
The "clean cotton" Yankee scent is available in various formats - tea lights, wax tarts and candle jars. As I have mentioned, I bought this in the wax tart form. The Yankee wax tarts are round discs of wax which are melted in an oil or a wax tart burner, using an unscented tea light which sits below the wax tart and melts it. The wax tart comes wrapped tightly in clear plastic which can be a little difficult to open, I usually use a sharp knife to rip a hole in it allowing me to get to the wax tart.
This Yankee wax tart is bright white in colour which I feel goes well with the "clean cotton" name, as it instantly conjures up images of freshly laundered linen. Yankee describe the scent as: "sun-dried cotton combined with green notes, white flowers and a hint of lemon". When I sniffed the wax tart before melting it, it smelt quite strong and immediately reminded me of washing powder and clean clothes. I have to admit I could not smell any lemon off this, but perhaps my sense of smell isn't as good as it could be.
When I melted the wax tart in my burner I was surprised to find that the scent was a lot more subtle than I was expecting. It is a lovely fresh, clean smell that I enjoyed, and it did fill the room but was not as strong as other Yankee scents I have tried. Similarly, after extinguishing the burner I found that the scent disappeared quite quickly and didn't linger as long as I would have liked. Yankee say their wax tarts will give around 8 hours of fragrance, I lit this wax tart for around 4 hours one evening and 4 hours the next, I would say that I only really got about 5-6 hours of proper fragrance from this wax tart. This again confirms for me that it is not as strong or long lasting as other scents in the Yankee range.
All in all, I really like the smell of this Yankee fragrance. I would probably buy it again but was a little disappointed by the weakness of it and the lack of longevity. I give it a 4* rating. Thanks for reading/rating and I hope this review was of some use to you.
Knowing just how much I love Yankee Candles, particularly their wax tarts, my daughter kindly bought me some for Mother's Day. Amongst them was a 'Clean Cotton' wax tart which I had not tried before. Clean Cotton is one of the Yankee fragrances which have been around for a long time now, however, I had not got round to trying this one in wax tart format as there always seemed to be another fragrance that appealed to me more, as I stood in the shops smelling the different scents on offer.
Clean Cotton has bright white coloured wax and has a 'crisp' fragrance, which to me seems reminiscent of washing powder ( like the boxes of Persil or Ariel I used to buy) when I have held it to my nose in a shop. I think this is why I have never bought a Clean Cotton wax tart before, as although I have nothing against the fragrance, my preference is for something other than a detergent-type scent when melting a wax tart.
You can't argue however, that Clean Cotton isn't an aptly named fragrance, especially seeing as how I have came across some Yankee fragrances now and again which bear little or no resemblance to what their names suggest.
Yankee describe their Clean Cotton fragrance as "Sun-dried cotton combined with green notes, white flowers, and a hint of lemon." Whilst I can't say I noticed a lemon scent while my tart was melting, the rest of their description seems accurate enough, as this fragrance along with the bright white wax does conjure up images of crisp freshly laundered cotton and also flowers with its floral notes, but there was no lemon scent that I noticed, which was a shame as I love citrus scents and it may have made the scent more appealing to me. Overall it is a pleasant, clean, fresh fragrance and despite my own personal thoughts about it, I can still understand its popularity.
You can expect to achieve approx 8 hours of fragrance from a Yankee wax tart before the scent is lost, but sadly I found my Clean Cotton wax tart fell slightly short of that. It isn't very often that this happens and to be honest I did not expect it to happen with this one, as it did have a fairly strong scent whilst still in its packaging and this generally this is a good indication that you will achieve great longevity when melting it.
After placing the wax tart in my burner and lighting a tealight underneath, it was a few minutes before I began to notice the scent appear. The familiar smell of washing powder was my first thought and then I noticed a slight floral scent appearing too, but no lemon. The fragrance was pleasant enough and I didn't dislike it, but once again I remembered why I haven't bought this myself in the past, as the overall scent of washing powder (which is the only was I can decribe it) was not really for me. I prefer the woody, musky, spicy scents or the fruity citrus scents when it comes to Yankee fragranced wax.
I also prefer wax tarts with a great 'throw'which fill the room with their fragrance before travelling out into the hallway and wafting up the stairs, but whilst I could detect the scent from this wax tart in my living room, it didn't appear to travel any further.
The scent didn't seem to hang in the air for very long after the tealight had been extinguished either which was a little disappointing, as this is something I have experienced when burning many other wax tarts.
After 6 hours, I noticed the scent beginning to weaken quite rapidly and after another hour it was simply a faint scent in my room. This again was disappointing as I have experienced many wax tarts which have offered much greater longevity.
Overall, I didn't dislike the fragrance of Clean Cotton, but it certainly won't become a favourite of mine and I doubt I would buy it again to be honest unless I saw it reduced somewhere.
Yankee wax tarts are available from department stores, card and gift shops such as Clintons and Collectables and also from a number of online retailers including Amazon. The average price of each wax tart is £1.20 - £1.30 but there are often reductions and offers on individual fragrances which are worth looking out for.
I love scented candles and Yankee are my absolute favourite but there are only a select few fragrances from Yankee that I would splash out on the glass candle jars for. Usually I stick to the tarts because they are so much cheaper. They might not be as long lasting or as strong fragrance but I just couldn't afford to buy the glass housewarmers for every scent I liked.
One of the few ones that I splash out on in the bigger glass jars is the clean cotton fragrance as this really is one of my personal favourites and in my opinion one of the best fragrances that Yankee candles does.
The last housewarmer jar of clean cotton that I bought cost me £18 for the large version so it is expensive and only really worth buying if you really like the scent. The jar is made of glass and also comes with a glass lid and a picture of a white picket fence and some laundry on the front of it. The colour of the candle inside the clear glass is white and it really evokes a sense of clean and fresh.
The large housewarmers are supposed to have a burn time of 110 to 150 hours and they really do last a long time so even though they are expensive they do actually work out at quite good value compared to cheaper candles with smaller burn times.
The clean cotton fragrance is absolutely gorgeous and one of the nicest in the whole Yankee range. It is quite a subtle fragrance so not one for people who like their scents strong. I love the scent so personally I would quite like it to be a bit stronger but I suppose that with it being a clean and fresh fragrance you don't want it to be too strong and over powering.
It really does smell like fresh laundry which is a smell I love but I also know a few of my friends who aren't very keen on this one as they think it smells like fabric conditioner. I can see where they are coming from but this is one of the main reasons that draws me to this smell as I love the smell of my kitchen when I take fresh laundry from the dryer and I always wished that I could keep that smell lingering for longer. Now with clean cotton I can keep the fragrance for longer.
The candle might be subtle but it does do a good job of actually filling a room with the fragrance and when I leave the room and come back into it again after having burnt this I am always pleasantly surprised with how much I can smell it especially since when I am sitting in the room when the candle is burning the scent is very faint to my nose.
Clean cotton is a fragrance that really does smell like its name and for lovers of the fresher and clean smells this is definitely one to consider. For the lovers of fruity or spicy smells then this is going to be one to avoid obviously as not only does it lack those smells but it also lacks the punch that those Yankee fragrances give off. This is a beautiful and subtle smelling fragrance that might not overpower a room but definitely leaves its mark.
Clean Cotton is one the 'regular' scents available from candle company Yankee Candle. It can be experienced in different formats including candle jars, votives, tealights and wax tarts. I will be reviewing the wax tart.
A wax tart is a disc of scented wax. It should be melted in an appropriate tart burner and Yankee Candle promise 8 hours of scent per tart. The Clean Cotton tart is a fresh white colour and wrapped in clear plastic. The label adorning the wrapper illustrates washing out on the clothes line.
The official description of this scent is 'sun-dried cotton combined with green notes, white flowers and a hint of lemon'.
~Price and Availability~
Clean Cotton wax tart is priced from £1.00-£1.25 depending on where you buy it. Online stockists include www.yankeescents4.com, Amazon and eBay UK. Highstreet shops which stock Yankee Candle are likely to stock this scent.
In a bid to sample all the scents that Yankee Candle has to offer, I recently made a purchase of some of the more regular scents available. I favour the wax tarts for my initial purchase as buying the jars can be costly and there is always the chance that one may not like the actual scent. I put off buying Clean Cotton for a while as despite liking the smell of freshly dried clothing, it seemed a little bland sounding when compared to the more distinguished scents that Yankee offer.
I would say that Clean Cotton is best suited to using during the day as it is definetely not a cosy, warming evening scent which I could relax with melting away in the background. Clean Cotton is great at eliminating odours (kitchen etc) in the home and as my tart began to melt, the scent lifted up from my tart burner in my alcove and cleansed the air. The clean, refreshing aroma of Clean Cotton is strong enough to filter around my living room, kitchen and into my hallway within a short space of time.
It wouldn't be enough just to say 'it smells like laundry powder/detergent' as you can buy lots of different scented laundry products! To me, the scent is clean, fresh and delicately floral. It reminds me of the distinct aroma of towels and bedding (or anything made from cotton) blowing on the washing line outside and surrounded by some flowers. If I sit near to my tart burner, I catch subtle undertones of citrussy lemon which enhances the refreshing aroma. The overall scent of Clean Cotton is inoffensive and a pleasant, airy fresh scent.
There isn't much more that can be said to be honest as this is a basic yet classic scent. The scent of Clean Cotton lingers in the air and makes my home smell clean - perfect for using before you have guests coming but you don't when them to know you have been burning candles or melting tarts! It would also be ideal for using when you want that clean, fresh air scent but it is too cold to have the windows and doors open for long. I would estimate that I received around 10 hours of noticeable scent from this tart so I was pleased with the quality and staying power.
Clean Cotton isn't a scent I would choose for regular use as I prefer fruity or spicy scents but it is definitely a lovely scent to have lingering in my home. It
Thanks for reading :)
I'm a HUGE Yankee Candle fan and have been buying their products for about 4 years now. I decided to buy their scent Clean Cotton because everybody raves about it all the time and it's one of their top selling scents. It's described as sun-dried cotton combined with green notes, white flowers, and a hint of
I bought this in the full size 22oz classic housewarmer jar candle. It's basically a large jar with a lid that reminds me of the jars they used to have the sweets in in old fashioned sweet shops. I love the full sized jars because they last ages and unlike cheap brands you can buy they don't just burn down in the middle. When they burn they burn down properly all the way down so you're not left with a hole in the middle and half the was round the outside has gone to waste. The large 22oz jars have 110 - 150 hours of burning time.
I really should have tried this out in a sampler size candle or tart before spending £18.99 on a full size jar because this fragrance just wasn't for me!! It really does smell to me just like dryer sheets and gave me a headache. I can't fault it, it is true to it's description and nice and strong to fragrance the whole house I just didn't like it. I'd suggest trying out any new fragrances in the tart or sampler size candles before paying for the bigger sizes just to make sure you like it. This scent has rave reviews everywhere it's just not for me.
Yankee Candles are available from a wide range of places like QVC, Amazon, Ebay, Halfords and dedicated online Yankee Candle shops like yankeedoodle. The large 22oz jars differ in price slightly but expect to pay about £18.99.
Our house constantly smells of some kind of yankee candle smell, my mum is obsessed and is always buying different smells, she bought one of the tart burners to try out new ones instead of buying large jars all the time. Her favourites are floral smelling ones, especially rose and lavender, whenever the lavender is burning though I always blow it out as I can't stand it.
I always go to yankee candle shop with her and end up sniffing a whole load anyway, I prefer the more natural smelling smells like the beach ones. I don't like the food ones such as apples, baked cookies and strawberries. There is one main smell I like and that is Clean Cotton.
I love the fresh smell, it just smells so clean! Some people say it reminds them of baby smell which they find very comforting, I find it comforting because it just smells so clean and relaxing! I probably like it so much because it's one of the least overpowering smells of all the yankee candles but it is still strong enough for the scent to linger and for guests and yourself to notice it. Yankee candle smells fill the whole room, with cheaper candles I find you can only smell them if you are near the candles.
At first I thought yankee candles were really expensive but seeing how long they last, the smallest jars last about 25-30 hours and the largest last about 110-150 or more and since you are not burning them constantly they last for absolutely ages! I have a large jar of clean cotton and let it burn when I am cleaning so it gets rid of that musty smell or just when I want to feel relaxed and calm.
Yankee candles are the best candles I've ever smelt and being in a jar is so handy because then there's no mess. You really are paying for the best quality because they last a lot longer than other candles and the smells are much better and not artificial smelling or overpowering. You can also take back your used glass jars to be recycled at Yankee Candle stores!
I'd wanted some Yankee products for some time but they are quite expensive in comparison to other scented candles on the market so I had always put off buying them and opted for something a little cheaper. However, as I have wanted to try them for in excess of 4 or 5 years now when I saw that Very were offering some for free when you spent £50 I jumped at the chance to try them. The promotion offered a box of tealights in a choice of three scents but the one I received was Clean Cotton.
==About Yankee Candles==
Yankee Candles began in 1969 in America when a 17 year old boy didn't have enough money to buy his Mum a Christmas present so he melted some candles, a neighbour asked him to make her one and with that he had enough money to produce two more...the story continues. Today they have over 150 fragrances and their aim is to provide homes with a passion for fragrance. The majority of their candles are produced in Massachusetts .
==Varieties, Price and Availability==
Yankee Candles are available in a number of sizes and variations. They range from a wax tart to go in a burner with the tart costing around £1.15 in most places, a sampler candle which is a small candle which weighs 50g and burns between 5 and 15 hours, as I have you can also buy the box of tealights which contains 12 and these usually retail for around £6.50. You then have the choice between all of the larger candles and there are many different sizes and styles to choose from including jars, pillars and tumblers. Jars seem to be one of the most popular options so I will give you a rough pricing of these then if you are interested but would prefer a different style then you can take a look online to see the price ranges:
Small Jar: 104g, 25-40 hours burn time. Cost: around £7.49
Medium Jar: 411g, 65-90 hours burn time: Cost: around £11.99
Large Jar: 523g, 110-150 hours burn time: Cost: around £13.99
The tumblers seem to be bigger in size but have a lower burning time and are about 25% more expensive than the jars.
Then of course there is the air freshener range which you can buy air fresheners for your car from or even plug in fresheners for your home! To give a rough idea, the plug ins retail for around £8.50.
All of these prices are sourced from yankeedirect.com
You can buy Yankee Candles in a variety of places but the majority of people tend to order theirs online. There are a few good websites in the UK which you can order from and trust they are an official seller, to name a couple - Yankee Direct and Yankee Doodle. You can also buy these on the high street, in some Debenhams they stock them and you quite often see shops devoted to Yankee in shopping centres, for example there is one in Festival Place, Basingstoke. Finally, of course ebay have thousands available from both private sellers and business sellers.
The tealights come presented in a nice cardboard box with a clear plastic window which you can see the product through. Inside are twelve tealights stacked in a neat and tidy manner, with 4 stacks of 3.
The fragrance is described as "Sun-dried cotton combined with green notes, white flowers, and a hint of lemon."
Upon opening the box I wasn't greeted with an inviting smell because of course, cotton is a fairly delicate smell. However, upon having a sniff I could smell the fragrance of fresh washing and well, clean cotton really! Initially I did think that this fragrance wouldn't be one of my favourites but I do find it quite a comforting fragrance and it does make me feel a bit more relaxed if I am particularly stressed.
The tealights come in a little plastic casing which you light the tealight in and keep it in here until the tealight is all used. The wick was white in colour which matched the candle giving it a very clean and polished look, it was easy to light and provided a nicely sized flame, enough to burn away happily but not one that was too high or that you kept having to check it wasn't going to catch on anything!
When burning, the smell of the clean cotton becomes more apparent though it is still a fairly delicate smell. I personally cannot detect the hint of lemon that is meant to be there but I imagine most other people can! A lot of people aren't a big fan of really strong aroma candles so this would be good for them as it provides a lovely smell that does give the home a slight aroma but it is not strong and certainly not overpowering. The aroma is pleasant and very relaxing which I find lovely for an evening in front of the TV.
I am really impressed with the burning time of these tealights. They are recommended to burn for around 4 to 6 hours but I've had my most recent one burning for over four hours now and its still well over half full so an excellent burn time for tea lights.
==What did I think?==
As I said, this was my first experience with Yankee Candles and although the fragrance certainly wouldn't have been one of my first choices, it is a nice softer fragrance which is nice if your not looking for strong aromas around the house. It provides a warm and comforting fragrance which has the ability to make you feel a lot calmer and more relaxed so its fab for anyone who does suffer from stress.
I very rarely choose to buy tea lights over a candle but these are of an extremely high quality. I liked the way they were in a plastic casing rather than the thin metal ones that most tea lights come in because I find that these often look a bit battered, especially after use and it just ruins the look of some tea lights. The plastic casing has remained clean and shiny throughout so looking at my current tealight, the only evidence its ever been used really is the burned wick.
I did like this fragrance despite it being one that I wouldn't have picked myself as a first try. It is quite a mellow aroma which is nice but not overpowering. The quality of the tea lights is very high and they also have a good longevity. Retailing at around 45p per tea light I do think they are very good value for money. I don't tend to buy tea lights a lot so I'm not sure if I would purchase the exact same product again but I am likely to buy another clean cotton fragrance when I am looking for something with a subtle and comforting aroma.
